[RELz/WIPz] Unofficial Skyrim Patch

I have certainly seen it, and can definitely confirm that those stairs and doors have an "Escher" vibe

When you go through those doors between those areas and walk the stairs and such, just think about where you're going and how you got there in between. It will make sense then... or not. :P

I understand the "odd configuration". My comment was just about "NPC's walking through the Archmage quarters". I don't consider the stairs/hallway as part of the "Archmage quarters", nor have I ever seen it. :)

Anyway, most likely a moot point. We are not going to rebuild the college interior.

I looked into this a long time ago. If you look at the models, definitely out of scale. I proposed then doing:

(1) Add another piece of stairwell on the mage's side. Because they are .nif models, I didn't know how to do it at the time, although I probably could now. Harder.

(2) Add an auto-load transport in the Mage stairwell just like Solitude windmill. Solitude has AutoLoadDoorMinUse01 -- used 17 places -- but there's also AutoLoadDoorHiddenMinUse01 -- only used 5 places. MinUse means the NPCs don't use it. Easier.

(3) Move the doors on the library side to shorten the stair. Right now, looking at the models, you can see that the doors are apparently mid-air over the library. If you move them to the flat landings where they make sense, you'd cut the length by a lot. Easiest!

(4) Do both 2 and 3.

EDIT: 3 & 4.

Maybe Hana didn't make it clear enough: We're not changing the layout of the College over this.

No one said anything about changing the layout, just fixing an oversight. Which at most could be the length of a stairwell right? To me that doesn't seem like much unless there is some technical engine limitation that would cause issues with such a change?

It also should be noted by in game dialog by Mirabelle Ervine that the Archmage Quarters should be above the Arcanaeum.

Have you actually seen how the College stairwell is set up though? What you guys are asking for would require changing the layout. Not to mention changing where some of the doors are, and at least one of those doors is held in a script property which makes it impossible to move.

Well now, that is different. It sounds like it would cause all kinds of trouble, something that the game does not need more of.

So I just did the Battle for Whiterun and can confirm that the camp is not disabling for me again. This happened to me in my last play through and I had to follow the instructions here to fix it.

Something isn't right here, I thought it was the usual random glitch but no, I can reproduce this now. It has been noted before that there was an issue with PCS that affected this but had been fixed. Aside from that, the only mods that affect the area are Bee Hives and CRF and maybe Point the Way.

I checked my logs and I can give some snips from them that might help track it down

I hate to be that guy, but you don't find it the least bit odd that you're suddenly suffering from numerous issues known to have been fixed?

Oh yes, trust me. It always seems to happen to me :P

All I can do is report what I find, I don't know what else to do. There is no logical explanation as to why this is happening, No mods that I use even touch these parts of the game, I have searched through everything and It makes zero sense. I guess I hope you guys with all your knowledge might be able to point out something I missed.

Oh, he's not the only one. I run with very few mods, and I'm pretty sure that gray faces were fixed long ago. Yet here they are again! Brand-spanking new game. What in the world causes this?

I was asking about LOD awhile back, and somebody wanted more details. Here's a couple of pictures. Note the perfectly nice LOD for Dragonbridge in the far distant background. How do we fix this, the ugliest place I've seen (and see over and over because of testing)?

Also, what's that blue ring around the mountain?

Well, crap. The was my only idea.

I was getting rid of a bunch of pointless mods I had in hopes it would do something. I have never encountered the gray face bug though.

I'll tell you what though, something real wrong is going on here and it's tired me out completely. I'm just burned and bummed at this point.

Maybe Hana didn't make it clear enough: We're not changing the layout of the College over this.

O lordy. Nobody was suggesting changing the layout. The only scripted door is the lower Archmage door. Here's the upper door as a AutoLoadDoorMinUse01. MinUse keeps the NPCs from using it. It saves the walk, and simulates a longer time passing on a much longer stair.

You do not appear to be listening. We're not changing the layout of the College. This necessarily changes the layout of the College. The changes you're making are not even a bug fix. They're a ludicrously stupid personal preference thing trying to masquerade itself as a bug fix.

Also, with this:

Oh, he's not the only one. I run with very few mods, and I'm pretty sure that gray faces were fixed long ago. Yet here they are again! Brand-spanking new game. What in the world causes this?

That's not the USKP's fault and implying that it is is rather low of you. Whatever caused it wasn't us. I suggest that your contaminated 6 month old install has more wrong with it than you think it does. Maybe you need to completely scrub the whole thing out before you start reporting on things that aren't even issues in the vanilla game, much less problems with the USKP.

For the record, I want to be clear that I was not implying that any of my own problems were ever caused by the USKP.

I do trust you guys more than anything when it comes to this :P

@Daydreamer

TBQH it's a good idea do get the whole thing redone, but go it as a separate mod. After a few updates and a fair amount of testing- (it won't happen overnight but hey I'm willing to try it out) leading up to full stability, perhaps then the USKP may assimilate it. :P

No, the USKP will not be assimilating it because it's not fixing an actual bug. Modifying the layout of the College is entirely a preference based change to the game.

  • 2 weeks later...

I think he means the Item Sorting Fixes file, which says it fixes "keyword errors in default Skyrim."
