smr1957 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Looking around at some comments posted in the Steam Starfield forum, it is amazing (well, not really, at least not to me, anyway) that there are so many people (including many with experience) who are STILL insisting on poor practice and doing things how they've always done them - just because. And they still don't seem to grasp the fact that any tool - whether it be xEdit or a mod manager - needs to be looked upon with a certain amount of suspicion, until they have all been updated to take into account the changes that have been incorporated into Starfield as seen in the CK.

Do you know if that will ever be put in the SF Creations so I can just click it and it's installed, then just have it loaded before mods that use it. Every time I've tried to just install it I've messed up and had to uninstall and reinstall my whole game (Skyrim and FO4 at the time). I just don't bother with it now and just don't use mods that need it. But, there's now a lot of good mods that need it, so I'm trying to figure it out.

I have no idea, but if I had to guess, I would say no - though Ian Patterson and the SFSE Team are the only one who know for sure. As for installation, it is really not that difficult - but yet it is still something which many people do have issues with. In regards that, the following in from Starfield Script Extender (SFSE)'s description page: "[ Installation ] 1. Copy the dll and exe files in to your Starfield folder. This is usually C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Starfield\. Do not put it in your Data folder. 2. Ignore the src folder. It is there for programmers only. 3. Make sure Steam is running, then launch the game by running sfse_loader.exe." Just one caveat - I do not know if this still applies for Starfield, but for Skyrim, Skyrim Special Edition, and FO4, before launching directly from the Script Extender .exe, you would need to launch the game once via the vanilla launcher, and then just close when the initial screen appeared (so do not enter the game itself). Arthmoor Posted June 13, 2024 Author Posted June 13, 2024 Given the nature of what SFSE is, I wouldn't ever expect to see it on the Creations menu at any point. Not even for PC. That's something Microsoft probably cringes about whenever it's brought up. Steam on the other hand is a possibility if Ian and his team want to pursue that. They did it for Skyrim LE back in the day.
smr1957 Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 Just a quick note. When looking at mods to download, one thing you need to be aware of is that they are of the proper type. Plugins for Starfield are of the following 3 types - and nothing else: Full Master Medium Master Small Master all of which use the .esm suffix, as explained in this post: So if you see a mod that has an .esp plugin, do not use it! smr1957 Posted June 15, 2024 Posted June 15, 2024 (edited) Starfield Script Extender (SFSE) Updated: 0.2.9 for game version 1.12.32 Also, another tutorial on the CK from Darkfox127: Starfield Creation Kit | Create a Basic Mod https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXNgjT409K0 Edited June 15, 2024 by smr1957
smr1957 Posted June 15, 2024 Posted June 15, 2024 Though the CK has been released and now mods can be properly made, it is still important to note and re-emphasize the following: THE GOLDEN RULE OF MODDING "No matter how good a mod may look or sound, no matter how much you may really want a mod, if the mod does not work as it should, causes issues in your game, or even seems to have the potential to cause issues, dump the mod. A game that does not work is no game at all." And, with the advent of Collections on Nexus, a new corollary to that: "No matter how good a collection may look or sound, if it has a poor success rate, don't use it - and if it doesn't work, or causes issues, dump it." From Helpful Links and References, Section 4 - Modding the Game
smr1957 Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 I've probably mentioned this somewhere before, or at least alluded to it, but it is worth repeating. As regards a previously modded game made with mods created before the release of the Starfield Creation Kit, the best bet is to simply get rid of any mods containing plugins that were created and uploaded before the Creation Kit was released, as they were inherently improperly constructed due to not being made with the proper tools. Once a person has done that, they should start fresh and only use mods which have been created using the new CK and other properly constructed tools based upon it. Also, make sure that none of the plugins are .esp files - Starfield does not use .esp files and using them WILL break your game. See: Regarding Mods and Plugin Types (from Helpful Links and References, Section 4 - Modding the Game).
LeBurns Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 (edited) Came across a bug and I don't know if this was caused by the unofficial patch, but I've never had it happen before. During the mission The Best There Is for the Crimson Fleet I stole ensign Ziremi's uniform. Well when grabbing the uniform I got the hat also (though I didn't actually pick up a hat). So I put both on and finished the mission. Now the uniform is marked as stolen, so I went to the Trade Authority to sell and buy back. However when I tried to buy back it wouldn't let me. No matter what I tried it wouldn't let me buy it back. It's there in the Buy Back list, but clicking it just makes a sound but nothing happens. The hat is worse. It's stuck on me. I can not take it off. When I try it says it's a quest item and can't be removed. So it looks like I'm stuck wearing this hat forever. Tonight (or sometime this weekend) I'll try turning the patch off and seeing if I can get it off. I can only play a few hours a night, and then only on a few nights (life) so I couldn't really play with it last night, but was wondering if this was something touched by the patch and needs to be adjusted. I have done this mission many times before, but never with the patch, and this is the first time this has happened. EDIT: I did some more research and found that the no buyback of Ziremi's uniform is a known bug. Still no idea how I got Ziremi's hat or why I can't remove it. I don't even see it in the Starfield items lists. Something must have created it but only mod I can think of is the unofficial patch as the few other mods I have do nothing to items or quests.
