About This File

Misery and despair have haunted you all your life. Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, you've been arrested and thrown in the dungeons. Your trial was supposed to be weeks ago, only nobody has come for you. It's been so long since seeing daylight you no longer know what month it is anymore. The dungeon is cold, damp, and worse still, you're running out of food. At least you have that leak in the wall for water. It seems as though you've been forgotten, soon to rot away and die. The eight have forsaken you! Or... have they?

Live Another Life provides an alternative means to start the game for those who do not wish to go through the lengthy intro sequence at Helgen. You will be given the opportunity to choose your race and then choose a new life for your character to lead. A wide variety of choices will be available. What you choose will have a lasting impact, so choose carefully or the gods may forsake you again!

Additional support has also been provided to allow you to extend Live Another Life with your own starts.

Requires the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch to be installed first!


What's New in Version 4.1.8

Released

Moved the call to disable the bed until after the player is moved out of the Abandoned Prison. This will prevent the skeleton and regular bed from momentarily being visible when the fake bed is activated. (Bug #32508)
When choosing a property start, the ownership achievement is never given to the player as it normally would when purchasing a home the regular way.
When choosing the Breezehome start, Lydia is not marriable because this is normally set when purchasing Breezehome from the steward instead of being handled normally like all the other housecarls.

Good morning, just a quick FYI - I'm testing the mod now for AE. One trick I've learned is to extract the BSAs, use the folders directly and remove the BSA files from the mod. So far it started right up in the prison cell. Going to kick around some more but it looks promising. I will update later, but encourage experimenting... cheers!

So in just playing around with another massive build, this approach seems to work just fine with multiple tests. Alternate Start appears to be perfectly stable in AE. Kudos to the author for their work on this great mod!

I’m curious why you find that helpful. There can be conflicts between load order and install order, but they are more often resolved by having assets in a bsa than the reverse.

Is this the SSE version or the AE version? I am confused because I am in the SSE mod section.

Happy new Year to you, Arthmoor!

This time around I chose Vlindrel for my game start.  A quick question if I may please:  Once in the home, is it possible to give it a makeover with a mod? Or would that break your Alternate Start?

I'm on the latest AE.

Update - tried it and it was a mess. 2 BSAs competing, not a good idea! Thanks anyway.

Thank you for your mods - always a fantastic support to the game.

Just saying, having more in the readme outside of "Activate the mod using whatever management tool suits you" would be super freaking helpful. I have no idea what this means. Normally when you drag and drop files into the data folder that's it. I use Vortex. Maybe add the next step? Would be nice, just saying.

Yeah I just recently installed this mod and when I start a new game on SE, most of the starting room is the color blue same with some objects while others have the right material and I fall to the floor.

Edit- It does work you just have to make sure that plugins.txt is in the skyrim special edition GOG folder.

What plugins.txt file are you referring to? I cannot find it anywhere.

So I was having the same issue as others with the GoG version of the game and this mod. I am on Skyrim AE 1.6.659.0 and SKSE 2.2.3 for the GoG version. I am using Mod Organizer 2 (MO2) as well. I believe what fixed it was downloading and installing Skyrim Special Edition GOG and Epic Games Support - Mod Organizer 2.4.x from the MO2 download page: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/6194?tab=files 

I closed MO2, followed the instructions in that file description, loaded MO2 again, selected Skyrim AE GoG, and started up my game again and boom, it worked! Just wanted to share with others just in case. This may be why this mod was working on Vortex and not MO2.

I selected Winstad Manor to start and the lantern is purple. Same at Heljarchen Hall

I'm on AE and I got it working for a bit, but my player textures were all messed up in racemenu, so I got those all fixed and now this won't work. After I hit new game, I just get an infinite load screen and the Level 1 indicator that usually pops up never does (as if the game's internals aren't making me a character). Only way I can do anything is if I coc to Whiterun and then go into the racemenu manually, but I don't ever get the Mara statue or the prison cell with the bed activator...lmk if you need a load list or logs or whatever.

has anyone found an issue with this mod and Dear Diary? 

 

after installing Dear Diary (needed for curators companion) when i started a new game and talked to the statue no menu comes up.

I cannot for the life of me get this mod to work on AE. Tried installing via MO2, and tried installing manually. I always get the regular cart intro.

hi I tried downloading this updated version of Alternated Start but Vortex keeps saying this is designed for a different game other then SE/AE x.x

the only one on Nexus Mods is the only one that's working and its still there non of your old mods have been deleted :x

Just installed it using Vortex with no issues and I'm running SE 1.6.640, which is the only version supported by Arthmoor.
