Leonardo Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 What the title says... The vanilla smelter cannot identify enchanted equipment if it's used to get ingots from equipment in your inventory. Before I active the smelter and when I select what ingot I want to have. Is this by design or is it a bug (engine bug not sure )?
Arthmoor Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Vanilla Skyrim doesn't allow you to smelt armor into ingots to begin with, so it's not an issue that ever came up for Bethesda. I'm not sure if there's a way to account for it in mods, but I'd certainly love it if there was.

Arthmoor Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Yes, exactly, as I said, there's no method for the smelter to know that an enchanted armor is based on one of the base armors. There's no conditional functions I'm aware of that will make that work either. I'm certainly not going to spawn hundreds of new smelting recipes to account for ever last one of the vanilla enchanted armors. It would take too long and be too prone to stupid mistakes along the way.
Leonardo Posted July 25, 2013 Author Posted July 25, 2013 IIRC I did melt armor/weapon before I started to use Ars Metallica and that was how I discover a chance to improved my smithing skill pretty quick. Although that needs to be seen through testing, which I tend to do in my next game without having Ars Metallica installed.
Arthmoor Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 As I said, there are no smelting recipes in vanilla for any armors to turn them into ingots. None. All the ones you're seeing were added by Ars Metallica. I had hoped it would be enough to do that with the base non-enchanted armors, but the template system didn't do what I was hoping for and there's no way I'm manually adding enough information to make it possible on the scale that would be necessary.
Leonardo Posted July 26, 2013 Author Posted July 26, 2013 Perhaps Bethesda changed the recipes for the smelter with a simple reason, because how can the player make the smithing skill legendary without melting armor/weapon in the smelter for the average player without them having them wasting to much time in their gameplay.
Arthmoor Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Nope. They never changed the recipes. It's all from Ars Metallica.
Leonardo Posted July 26, 2013 Author Posted July 26, 2013 I see. Oh well a least I found a way to make the smithing skill legendary rather quick in my game.
