About This File

Ever wondered why the guards and other NPCs can use practice dummies to train on (even if it's not real) but you can't? Perhaps you want to boost your combat skills before heading out into the big bad world to make a name for yourself, but have been unable to do so. Maybe you just like sticking dummies with sharp objects because they don't bleed all over everything and make a big mess on that nice rug in your basement.

Practice Dummies allows you to train your 1H and 2H combat skills, archery, and magic skills with frost, fire, and shock spells. You can do this up until skill level 30, after which you will gain no more insight from attacking the dummies. This is accomplished through the use of a simple script attached to combat dummy objects which are already present in the game but never used. Archery targets required the creation of a second object to replace the normal static target objects.

Support for Falskaar and Wyrmstooth is included.

Requires the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch to be installed first!

What's New in Version 2.0.8

Released

The .esp and .bsa files have been changed to lowercase filenames. This is to help facilitate universal filename compatibility for Steam Deck and regular linux users whose file systems are case sensitive. Many of them make use of the in-game menu to download mods and Bethesda.net ALWAYS downloads in lowercase. For the benefit of people using linux or the Steam Deck, it would be greatly appreciated if any mods which currently use this mod as a file dependency change the case of that dependency in their master lists. Hi!

Great idea!

Just curious – is there a reason that this mod was deleted from the Nexus? I mean, like not working correctly or something?

The mod works fine for me, been using it forever.

Not sure about the whole story behind taking it off Nexus.

Works for me, as well!

Just a note: only about five arrows can be retrieved back; if more are shot into the dummy, those obviously disappear (at least for me in Helgen).

Will this need an update? It interests me.

So does this mean if you install mods (via mod manager) with uppercase .esp and .bsa filenames and/or paths on linux they won't work properly at all or won't work properly in part?

It means you'll have more difficulty than on Windows getting things to work with each other. Since bethnet downloads everything in lowercase, that's more or less the standard for which case filenames should be in. As usual though, the community used capitalized filenames forever and this only really started to become an issue once the Steam Deck came along and made gaming on linux more of a thing.

There are ways to get around the issue on both the Deck and on regular linux, but they have to be done when the filesystem is first set up, and neither the Deck not linux default to a case-insensitive filesystem.
