smr1957 Posted January 30 Posted January 30 (edited) Valentine's Screen Archery Competition https://www.nexusmods.com/news/15170 Don't know why they are calling it a screen archery competition, as going by the winners in their previous competitions, it is an Ai and Digital Manipulation/editing competition. All those just taking screenshots of their game, and not using AI or a photoshop like program, need not enter. (They do state no AI allowed, but it was painfully obvious in the previous winners, that it had been used.) Nexus is seemingly getting as far away from the truly gamer oriented site that it once was, and becoming just another suit in the corporate world. So, my advice - if you are taking screenshots of your game and thinking of entering them, unless you a semi professional or a gifted amateur in the use of digital enhancement software, don't bother. BOTTOM LINE: If you are taking screenshots of your game and thinking of entering them, unless you a semi professional or a gifted amateur in the use of digital enhancement software, don't bother, as almost all the past winners were massively edited and manipulated using photo editing software or (despite Nexus stating it was not allowed), used AI to adjust the appearance. Nah, they've been strayed from their mission for years. It's just taken this long for the average user there to notice. Many of us as mod authors have been saying these things since the pandemic, if not longer.
lmstearn Posted January 31 Posted January 31 (edited) Well, to prove something is AI generated is in itself a challenge enough, despite the tools suggested in the NYT, and even Google's own SynthID (under restricted release), some folks at Reddit aren't so sure. Ultimately the best tool for detection will be ... AI itself, an Ouroboros if you will, a kind of a self discovering self along a Gödel, Escher, Bach theme. In this rather ordinary but strangely classic mind there did appear a wondrous vision of AI detection for tomorrow, There will emerge another bunch of companies very much like what you find on VirusTotal, all operating under the banner of AITotal or the like where one pops an image in, and out comes a collective assessment of "infection" summarized by a percentage. Coz all AI generated content and false positives are bad bad bad like viruses and will surely infect our minds as well as infect our machines. Then again, in deep hindsight. we are sure to get over it. Edited January 31 by lmstearn

Sigurð Stormhand Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Seems they prohibit "AI Generated" content, which I suppose doesn't preclude AI touch-up.
Arthmoor Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Ironic that they'd prohibit AI-generated screens in a contest but allow rampant use of AI-generated content in mods.
smr1957 Posted February 1 Author Posted February 1 I've given up trying to understand the rational that some use when making guidelines and rules.
lmstearn Posted February 13 Posted February 13 And the winners are: https://www.nexusmods.com/news/15203 1st place was an interesting choice as opposed to # 2 and #3, whatever the judges were looking for in the submissions probably originated somewhere in the direction of the Oort cloud. Simplicity is also a point of contention in the interpretation of any object of art. They're all fine really, a thing to note is the first three with their legs chopped off - used to be a thing, maybe ok these days. smr1957 1
