Blame the idiots who keep making fundamental changes to the core structures of linux that result in upgrades that fail because you had no warning. I've restored the backup, which naturally was not yesterday's because today's daily backup got done while I was pulling my hair out trying to fix things.Fortunately it seems the last couple of days were quiet ones.
