Nico coiN 50 Posted March 18 Then there's a problem with the rendering: if the close star light source is behind it, then the planet should be displayed as a whole black disc with a faint light crown around it. Something like what we know as an eclipse seen from our earth ground floor. Link to comment
smr1957 814 Posted March 18 (edited) Well, you would not see a ring around it because the perceived size of the star in this instant, being so distant, is much smaller than the diameter of the planet - so it would be totally blacked out (and the backside of the planet should be completely black as well - at least in the visible spectrum). But, the issue is that though the rings would not be visible, they should still obscure the stars seen through them, at least to a certain extent (not enough to make the rings directly visible, but they would block the view of the stars beyond considerably). Well, it is a game, though, and not real life (or the movies, either - which it seems many accept as fact, even though the things seen in movies are anything but - LOL!), so for what it is, it's certainly not a big deal. Personally, if I want total accuracy, I'll visit an observatory (and even then, things will be subject to external influences and equipment limitations), and not look for - nor expect - it in a game.
