4Gb Patch

How do I use it and I need to use it for Oblivion, otherwise I won't be able to play Pelletine?

I've use it for Morrowind, but that was a long time ago and now I don't remember how.

Google "4gb patch Oblivion", there are plenty of guides.

1) Patch GOG version only (or is it already patched? Don't have GOG version myself to check). Steam version needs to be unpacked first (remove DRM), then patch, but Steam can redownload original exe any moment. So just use GOG.

2) Patch exe only, not DLLs.

I have searched and tried several times to patch Oblivion.exe without luck, because I've no idea what command I need to type in the Windows Run (WinLogo+R) and all I get is a "I can't open executable" message every time I try.

I really wish OBSE had the LAA patch included, instead of excluding it.  Even MCP for Morrowind automatically apply the LAA patch every time one install the selected patches in MCP.

- 4GB patch. Integrated into the install process.

All I needed to do was to run the 4gb_patch.exe as an administrator and now it worked. :D

Despite that Oblivion.exe still choke. :(

I see no reason to do that.  Besides without having Pelletine installed Oblivion is working, but as soon I install Pelletine Oblivion won't work.

The reason he asked you for a load order is that it may not be the 4GB patch that's causing your issue at this point. Any number of methods for patching it to allow 4G should be sufficient and since those aren't working for you for some reason it's time to dig deeper.

Right, it's also a way to judge your overall load on the game, if you're running FCOM then you may just be overtaxing the engine.

You need to disable the RAEVWD Cities module since OCR handles that on its own for the modified city layouts. Plus you have the Imperial City file active which is also likely to be overloading things. That part of RAEVWD is VERY costly and it wouldn't surprise me if that in combination with the two Eslweyr mods is putting you over budget on VRAM and crashing the game as a result.

So, you're saying that I need to remove the other RAEVWD and only keep the RAEVWD New Sheoth active.

I'll try that and post the result here.  Thanks, Arthmoor. :)

I removed both RAEVWD and RAEVWD-SI without luck, so there must be something else.  Perhaps I need to remove OCR too.

Did you regenerate the LOD after removing both of those? OCR isn't going to be the issue here.

Will it work with just Tamriel Heightmaps etc. installed?

Yes, I did.  Why do you ask?  I know one need to run TES4LODGen every time a mod is either removed or installed.

I even removed those OCR city related installations e.g Imperial City, Outer District, Sheoth on Shiverling Isle.

You need to ask Envy about that.

No, you need to carry out your own troubleshooting - like anyone else.

Have you tried differentiating your load Order? Load 50% of mods with Pellantine installed, then load the other 50%?

Really? Never heard that.

BOSS says it. Although in Leo's case, it's not likely to be an issue until he gets to Skingrad. From WryeMusings:

Spoiler

Note: Salmo uses some rather complicated schedules. If, after installing, you start suffering CTDs while sleeping or around Salmo NPCs:

•  First, see if removing Salmo the Baker from your load order resolves the CTDs.

•  Next, make sure that Salmo is relatively late in your load order. (Otherwise, it's changes to cell ownership might not take effect.

•  Next try changing the gamehour (e.g. in console, set gamehour 14 to set the time to 2 PM). Try different times and see if this resolves the problem.

•  Finally, if still having problems, report the problem on the [RELZ] Salmo the Baker topic.

•  Be sure to include your current cell, the game hour and the day of the week in the report!

I've used it with no issue- IIRC there was some hysteria back at the old Bethsoft forums about it.

What has the Salmo the Baker got to do with the issue I have?

That looks to me like an engine issue, complex NPC packs can cause CTD if the engine can't process all the AI. Beth fixed this by applying hard limits of 10 NPC's to combat etc. If Salmo himself has lots of Packs that could cause CTD, I suppose.

It would be appreciated if you shared your solution with everyone else, so that others can benefit - even if it doesn't work.

  • 2 years later...

I can use the CFF process explorer to set the RAM usage.  I the oblvion.exe limited to a maximum of 4gb because it is 32bit or otherwise, or could it be set even higher on a modern computer with plenty of RAM?

No, a 32-bit program can only access a max of 4 gigs of memory. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/8869563/how-much-memory-can-be-accessed-by-a-32-bit-machine
