I need to get rid of Avast and replace it

The latest update for Avast was a disaster for me, because now Avast have become way too sensitive about any file.

The other day I was installing the latest Wrye Bash beta and out of sudden Avast wanted to scan it for virus, which have NEVER happen before and after a while I got the result the file was virus free.

Now, this is what makes me mad about Avast.  A few minutes later Avast wanted to scan it for virus a second time.  WTF?

What the hell is going on and at that time I started to consider to scrap Avast for good and replace it with another AV, but I dunno what is out there or what's recommended.

I also want to say that Avira is not what I want to go back to, because I got bad experience when using Avira a couple of years ago which could explained why Avira was a bit buggy.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials which I'd assume is only available for a Windows OS. It's probably not nearly as good as a paid antivirus software but it seems to work well enough for me and doesn't use up a ton of system memory. I also use the basic version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as a backup to manually scan my PC every so often which seems to do a really good job considering it's free software. Neither of these seem to be overly-sensitive from my experience.

I was so damn frustrated and forgot about the Microsoft Security Essentials, but in the end I return to Panda Antivirus I once used for about 10 years and after I notice something I didn't like.

So I stop using Panda until today and the last time I used Panda Antivirus was about 5-6 years ago.

I even talked to a friend of mine since I knew he had used AVG Antivirus for many years, just to get his opinion about AVG Antivirus and he told me that he now use Avast.

I tried AVG Antivirus, but it was too intrusive about get this or get that to fix a *slow* PC.  So I remove it as quick as I install it and it was then I decided to go back to Panda Antivirus, just to get a decent antivirus protection.

If I knew more about software and programming I would probably file a complaint to the authorities and let them investigate Avast, because about 2 hours ago I notice something I was not aware of until I saw it and what I mean is that the file associations didn't exist in Windows.  The file associations for WinRAR had been completed messed up and I know for sure I didn't change them, so I figure that it must have been Avast that removed the file associations for WinRAR.

/\/\ What he said :), I have the same setup .. But for me its no longer Microsoft Security Essentials, if you have Windows 8 or 10 you get a new version of MSSE which has replaced their old Windows Defender .. And they called the new MSSE - Windows Defender

Bizarre but true. So MSSE is .. as of Win 8 upwards .. part of the OS

Add to that MalwareBytes Anti-malware for occasional second opinion sweeps ( and for routing out anything thet gets through )

Best setup I have had on four family machines in the last 15 years ..

We have tried Avast ( used to be really good ), NOD32 ( also at one time was the best of the freebies ), AVG and something else I cant remember - Over the years they have all been in a neck-and-neck horse race for best

MSSE ( Win 8/10 Windows Defender ) + Malwarebytes as a team are also highly compatible, and a recommended setup by the lead programmer of MBAM

Just dont use Malwarebytes as a resident anti-malware, run it periodically as a surprise attack on anything which may have got in.

Our machines have not had any malware problems since using this setup ( started with the two of them back on Win 7 machines, so its quite a long time ago now )

Probably helped by the fact that none of us use cracked software or visit porn sites, and use UBlock Origin browser plugin on all machines ( stops you going to bad sites / connections on page in the first place, its a bit like having MVPS Hosts file in a plugin .. plus everything else it does ).
