- Laptops with two graphics cards
(Intel integrated graphics, I do not know if it works with AMD processors simply do not have such to test)
Intel HD graphics Bypass Package
Unpack "d3d9.dll" and copy the game directory where is Fallout3.exe ignore other files. Do not copy this file to the Windows System Directory!
The game detects the graphics card as "NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS" do not worry about it, it simply ignores integrated graphics card from the CPU.

- Large Address Aware for Fallout3.exe
Large Address Aware Download
It is not advised to use this application if you have less than 3 GiB of RAM.

- Heal GFWL disease
Never install GFWL. In return copy in the game directory "xlive.dll" from FOMM\Data\xlive.dll FOMM Download

Files that I always removed (or backup) from the game directory, they are not required for proper operation of the game.
(They are Junk for GFWL)

FOSE and Plugins

Fallout Script Extender (FOSE) by SE Team

- Read Manual on FOSE Main Page or fose_readme.txt!
- Download FOSE 1.3 b2

In addition, I recommend add game directory to the exclusions in the anti-virus program.
Some antivirus programs cause problems for FOSE which is an integral part of this guide.

Fallout 3\fose_1_7.dll
Fallout 3\fose_editor_1_5.dll
Fallout 3\fose_loader.exe

Windows User Account Control

When the game is installed on the system partition "C:\Program Files (x86)" or "C:\Program Files" UAC can cause problems.
I do not recommend turning it off UAC, instead, I recommend the following:

When we have multiple HDD, SSD, partitions. (Best Solution)
Install the game on a different drive or partition than Windows.

When we have only one partition.
Do not install games in "C:\Program Files (x86)" or "C:\Program Files" for example, create a new catalog "C:\Games" and install them there.
Additionally, you can set a shortcut to run with Administrator Privileges.
RMB on shortcut [ Properties ]
In shortcut Tab click on the [ Advanced ] button
Select options box [ Run as administrator ] and confirm [ OK ]

>>> Do not set the compatibility for Windows XP SP3, or some other options. Just do not touch this option. <<<

UPDATED Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch

- Download and install UPDATED Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch 2.2 (Mod Manager Version)

Finally it is time to create a shortcut that we will use to run game.

I have noticed increased stability of the game by using affinity.
Ordering in Fallout.ini uses four (iNumHWThreads=4) or two cores (iNumHWThreads=2), windows still launches Fallout 3 and "ordering to use" all CPU cores.
Which in my case causes less stability on i7-2600k 4,5ghz WC or laptop Intel Core i7-2670QM.

FOSE Note.
Despite the fact that you run with affinity only FOSE setting is inherited in to Fallout 3.exe.
I also recommend using only real CPU cores no virtual (Hyper-Threading)

Create a new shortcut on your desktop.
- RMB on desktop [ New ] -> [ Shortcut ]
- type

%WINDIR%\System32\cmd.exe  /C start "Fallout3" /High /affinity 55 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Fallout 3\Fallout3.exe"

(C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Fallout 3\Fallout3.exe this is the default installation path, yours may be different)

FOSE 1.3 b2
In addition, I recommend add game directory to the exclusions in the anti-virus program.
Some antivirus programs cause problems for FOSE which is an integral part of this guide.

%WINDIR%\System32\cmd.exe  /C start "FOSE" /High /affinity 55 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Fallout 3\fose_loader.exe"

- and [ Next ] buton
- we give a name for the shortcut. and click [ Finish ] buton.
- RMB and select [ Properties ] to set up short.
- in Shortcut Tab in a field "Start in:" we change the "%windir%" in to Fallout 3 directory. Example "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Fallout 3\"

Now Fallout 3 going to run with "High" priority and will use only 4 real core 0 virtual (Hyper-Threading)
For Me, this method resulted with more stable game.

APP-NAME = Application name.
PP = Priority of application you run.
AA = Affinity of application you run.
CC = Full path to applications you want to start. (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Fallout 3\Fallout3.exe)

Priority:

%WINDIR%\System32\cmd.exe /C start "APP-NAME" /PP "CC"

Priority Examples:

PP = Realtime     (Not Recommended)
PP = High
PP = AboveNormal
PP = Normal
PP = BelowNormal  (Not Recommended)
PP = Low          (Not Recommended)

Affinity:

%WINDIR%\System32\cmd.exe /C start "APP-NAME" /affinity AA "CC"

Affinity Examples:

Windows 7 Task Manager.
CPU without Hyper-Threading CPU0 = 1st Core in CPU, CPU1 = 2nd Core in CPU etc...
CPU with Hyper-Threading CPU0 = 1st Core in CPU (Real), CPU1 = 2nd Core in CPU (Virtual), CPU2 = 3rd Core in CPU (Real) etc...
For example, Intel I7-2600k has four real (0,2,4,6 Real-Cores) and four virtual (1,3,5,7 Hyper-Threading) cores.

Nice to see this stuff here, IP. Thanks. ;)

As I actually don't have the game installed I do have a question, however :

- Audio Problems Fix

(%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Fallout3\Fallout.ini)
[Audio]
iAudioCacheSize=4096

Can this fix the weapon idle sound at extra high volume and unstoppable ? (flame throwers, electric bats from Zeta) Or are the fixes from UF3P still relevant ?

@Nico

This entry in the INI and Roy DLL's for me eliminate delays during playback many sounds in game.

UUF3P improves also other errors in mentioned by you flame thrower and electric bats so I recommend using it.

NVAC works with Fallout 3 if you put in Data\FOSE\Plugins and will further help to reduce crashes. Queued never made it official but it does work and he was accepting logs before he disappeared. It also works with Oblivion and Skyrim.

I posted this MANY times in the uUF3P thread but they keep deleting my posts there because I didn't agree with including cut content in the mod, so I quit bothering.

Using the multithreading tweak in conjunction with bLoadFaceGenHeadEGTFiles=1 tweak can *sometimes* cause the black face bug (pitch black) it can also happen with hats, something with .egm/.egt may not work correctly in both Fallout 3 and NV.

under:

[backgroundLoad]

bUseMultiThreadedFaceGen=1

Will fix that issue IF it occurs.

I forgot completely about NVAC.

[backgroundLoad]

bUseMultiThreadedFaceGen=1

And for INI tweak, I do not change "MultiThreaded" in INI, but if you write that working time to try.

Also they removed my posts so I did exactly the same thing. (good thanks for improvement of more than 100 meshes)

I do not like "this road" also (cut content) for me the assumption of UF3P is to fix errors rather than adding what we can add.

Thank you for your help Roy.

Isn't that basically the same problem that doomed the unofficial patches for NV before the YUP came along? I can understand the logic behind why they'd want to include that stuff but it's not really appropriate if your mission is to fix bugs. I'd bet a sister project would work that handles restoring that stuff, in much the same way I'm doing with Cutting Room Floor for Skyrim, and Shroob is doing with the Oblivion Content Restoration Project.

Yes it is.

Apparently they no longer have more ideas to fix Fallout 3 and "force into people their ideas" IMO.

Exactly.

Yeah it was exactly the same problem, I don't want to include anything of the sort in our bugfix mod. I'm near ready to release New Vegas Uncut, I have some small merging to do yet which is a compilation of most of the cut content plus more that we've been working on over time. This is the place for such things obviously, and we have plans for a decent F3 one additionally.

I do appreciate what Tommy has done, but to shun us for having a difference of opinion when we both were active contributors leaves me a tad baffled and more than a bit put off. Especially since I fixed some bugs in the game that no one else did in 8 years, not a very nice "thank you". We both had suggested that they make a proper uncut mod as a sister project to uUF3P and it wouldn't be that hard to do either...  I also sent quite many cell/worldspace fixes that just got ignored? I just don't understand why the hostility.

@InsanePlumber: I very much appreciate your contributions, you will get top billing in the contributors section and I welcome any more that you have to contribute!

Want you know there will be more.

I am almost done with vanilla meshes for armors ~80 percent I had to start all from the beginning (SSD failure) and I have corrected ~40 percent of all weapons. (FO3)

When I'm done with it FO3 I get down to the FNV armors and weapons meshes.

Finally, I have to seriously consider the TTW.

I tried about two years ago and it was not too stable.
But from what I recently browsed TTW forum is much improved now.

Sorry about your data loss, I know how much that can suck.

Lets talk about that over on our site, don't want to ruffle any feathers or scales here.

Ok. :rofl:

UUF3P 2.2 is up but so far only (crippled version) in executable form.

I suspect there will not be other version. (for mod managers)
Ben finally has something to give of himself, and it seems that the installer is only what "he can do". :trumptroll:
Not even updated the description on the front page or in the forum.

BenWah wrote.

Tommy (hairylegs222) has an update ready for me to roll up.

I hope to get it out very late tonight or tomorrow.

As always, Tommy (+ community) = 99% of the work, my part is tiny and easy.

This project is effectively on hiatus for now.

I suspect that this is the end of UUF3P.

I assure you I did that only using different app.

But thank you for the information, useful to other people.

And you become a contributor to my insane guide.

Yup I will extract it myself.

I have a feeling eventually we'll make our own for FO3 , but not any time soon.

Can always make an additional mod with your fixes and new ones. Have to check textures sets with all the mesh edits, and that takes a looooong time to do.

@Roy

When I finish doing all meshes which fixes UUF3P.
All will be done by me and then I'll only be depends on UUF3P  ESM Only

I see that at the nexus showed up version for the Mod Manager (UUF3P)

What exactly do you need to check? xEdit can grab a list of textures from a nif file, also a list of node types, names and indexes.

If the nodes are rearranged then the indexes change so the records for the texture sets need to be updated. Mostly for armor and weapons, it's a tedious job to check them and update them?

Not everyone can script or wants to spend the time to learn, but if you want to make such scripts please do.

IP one of your links does not work

"Download ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated!.bsa from GitHub Credits go to Sharlikran"

Github gives a 404 not found

I have found another which does the job, Quazzy has one packaged up as an installer, or if anyone does not trust .exe on Nexus there's a manual installation file too, I preferred the latter - http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/944/?

Is there a reason why you use this instead of the bsa redirection feature in Wrye Flash?

BSA Redirection in Wrye Flash is essentially doing the same thing as that file.

Thanks.  That's what I thought but the way the guide is written its kind of confusing.

The guide also recommends making a shortcut to Fallout.exe to set affinity/priority and then recommends to do the same with the FOSE Loader, but it seems like that would make a shortcut to Fallout.exe redundant, correct?

Also, do you have opinion on the usefulness of nvac.dll (the new vegas anti-crash dll recommended in the guide)?  I am a little leery of "crash fixing" dll files.

I doubt very much that setting CPU affinity would make that much difference. Doing that via a shortcut to the .exe file means that setting it on FOSE won't matter for Fallout.exe anyway since FOSE isn't going to invoke the shortcut to the main executable.

I didn't find the crash fixer for Oblivion to be reliable at all, and don't trust the one for Skyrim, so my instincts about one for NV would lead me to the same level of distrust. IMO, let the game crash. Trying to keep it running with bad data in memory is dangerous.

NVAC is essential and must have in fallouts. Unlike Oblivion's crash "fixer" which was simply suppressing exceptions without actually fixing anything, NVAC does fix shortcomings in the code and let the game crash in case of real errors.

I tried to play almost vanilla New Vegas and got infinite loading screens which prevented me from advancing in the game. Installing NVAC fixed that and I was able to finish the game. Then I modded it and played once again without any issues too. So I can personally recommend from my own firsthands experience to use it.
