vrey
Hello! The last 10 hours or so of playing I came across several quest bugs that were supposed to be fixed in USKP, the latest ones I remember being related to Maven Black-Briar and the Frost quest, Septimus Signus not dying as he should, and the Whiterun tree/sapling bug (although this one was reverted if I understand the changelog correctly?). I know that the patch is installed since weapons no longer drop separately from NPCs and the remove effect shrines exist and many text related bugs are properly fixed (20% Talos buff for example). I barely use any mods at all and I haven't uninstalled any mods either. Load Order Latest Version NMM was used for installing everything. LOOT for sorting but it's *really* overkill when I have so few mods. It's obviously on my end since the patches are clearly working great for thousands of people, I just can't figure it out... Thanks in advance for any help.
Hana
Hello vrey, welcome to AFK Could you be a little more specific on the exact issues you're coming across? I can't see the actual patch version #'s. Are you sure you're up to date? Did you start a new game or are you coming across issues on an existing save game? Have you tried enabling a papyrus log to see if you're getting any script errors? Leonardo
Welcome to AFK Mods vrey. NMM was used for installing everything. LOOT for sorting but it's *really* overkill when I have so few mods. It's obviously on my end since the patches are clearly working great for thousands of people, I just can't figure it out... Even if NMM was designed for Skyrim and Oblivion, you shouldn't rely on that NMM will work every time you install a mod if you want to have a stable modded game. Not using LOOT is really a overkill reagardless how many mods you use. What you should do is to learn how Wrye Bash works and this Wrye Bash Pictorial Guide is a good start. Of course you can always ask us here if you don't understand something and/or want to learn how this or that works etc.
Arthmoor
Welcome! Briefly: 1. The Frost quest should definitely be fixed. Not sure why it's acting like it isn't. 2. Septimus has two different death issues. We've fixed one. The other is based in his animation file and currently we have nobody available who knows what's wrong with it. 3. What Whiterun sapling bug are you referring to?
vrey
I'm on 1.9.32.0.8 updated through steam so I just assume it's the latest. Issues happened on an existing save, although I just started fresh on a new save and went straight to Riften, got the quest from Louis Letrush and went straight to Maven Black-Briar and I could tell her about the plot still. I don't really care at all about this specific bug but it does shows that I haven't installed it properly or broken it somehow. The Septimus Signus bug I was talking about referred to the death when he enters the cube with Oghma Infinium and he just stands infront of the book without hovering/dying. The Whiterun Gildergreen tree sapling bug where the dead tree doesn't disappear. Thing is though the sapling didn't appear either. It basically seems like all text changes and things like weapons being attached to the body works, but everything quest related doesn't. I don't know how to enable papyrus logs but I will google it and then try it. I'm strongly considering reinstalling completely and trying Wrye Bash instead. EDIT: I'm in the process of reinstalling completely and this time I won't use NMM. There's clearly something that I've screwed up somewhere. Thank you all very much for the help! Have a nice day/evening
alt3rn1ty
To switch papyrus logs on you need to make some ini edits my documents \ my games \ skyrim \ Skyrim.ini [Papyrus] bEnableLogging=1 bEnableTrace=1 bLoadDebugInformation=1 After running the game look in .. my documents \ my games \ skyrim \ logs \ script \ Papyrus.0.log .. Open it with notepad or notepad++ The latest log will always be Papyrus.0 ( you may have up to 4 of them, but 0 is always the most recently made ) When you are not looking for problems, set all the above settings to 0 again to switch papyrus logging off ( Papyrus logging slows your game performance down a bit ) If doing a re-install - Be sure that NMM did not leave any loose files behind in Data

alt3rn1ty
AFAIK you cannot open Papyrus.0.log in notepad, I assume you mean Windows notepad, due to its file size limit of 50 Kb I think it is, instead you need to open it in Notepad++. I think that old MS knowledgebase article only applies to Windows and Windows for Workgroups versions 3 / 3.1 ( have a look at the Properties Applies to section ) I just tried opening Wrye Bash Advanced Readme.html with notepad which is currently at 175kb and it was fine on windows 7 But yeah, I use notepad++ personally aswell, its better at handling MUCH larger files, like logs can be .. Depends on the size of the log, and even notepad++ can bite off more than it can chew. Grab notepad++ from its home https://notepad-plus-plus.org/ ( dont get it from sourceforge any more, sourceforge cant be trusted not to inject a dodgy installer - See the following https://notepad-plus-plus.org/news/notepad-plus-plus-leaves-sf.html )
vrey
It still isn't working. I uninstalled Skyrim, deleted the game folder as well as the My Games\Skyrim\ folder, reinstalled Skyrim only (did not install DLC to save time) through Steam, installed USKP manually (4 files) into Skyrim\Data\ and enabled logging. Started a (new) game, finished the "tutorial", teleported to Riften, spoke to Louis Letrush and received Promises to Keep, went straight to Maven Black-Briar and the option to tell her about the theft was available, then I quit the game. lmstearn
The real joy begins when opening large files with Notepad and watching it hang. (Twice as long with word-wrap) @Very. Hi there. Nothing wrong with the log at all. Restarting the game can also be quicker with Arthmoor's Live Another Life. If you feel Maven's dialogue options are at fault, then raise an issue in the bug tracker here. Have fun with the game.
