Edit: I think this may infact be a mod conflict, I'm using a mod that modifies how guards react to hostile factions. If Ancano gets added to one of these factions during this quest, I suspect that's the issue.

I simply stopped the guards follow package from being applied during the final quest. I guess that will have to do

Unless it was you, someone has reported the exact same problem on the Cutting Room Floor thread on the Nexus, but they didn't mention the possibility of a mod conflict.

If I'm reading this right, It was set to explicitly start combat with Ancano during the scene here.

Having the guard help in the fight is intentional as you've noticed. It's even in the changelog

Ancano should not still be essential at that stage of things. Odd.

That's fine and all, but the guard starts the fight before everyone else does So the whole scene never gets to play out.

Finally had some time for the game, found another small conflict between Touring Carriages and CRF. Heljarchen's NightgateInnMapMarker has its original radius of 3500. TC had enlarged it to 4250 to cover the road, so that the place is added to the map as you pass. The next time the player passes, they can ask to stop there. If Stonehills is close enough to the road for its radius to cover the road, then Heljarchen (which is objectively closer) should be, too.

Also, as a suggestion, the old Arena name was Heljarchen Creek. It looks more like a Pond now. Calling it Heljarchen Pond might better distinguish it from the HF Hall. (I'd called it Heljarchen Nightgate Inn, because the extant driver dialogue says Heljarchen, but the only thing there was Nightgate Inn.)

How does one start the The Missing Apprentices quest? I talked to Phinis Gestor but I had no option to start it

So I'm finally getting the chance to try this again. I listen to his lecture but he does not mention the last part of the one for the apprentices. It sounds like he just up and quits speaking at a certain point and I can't figure out why.

~~That is unless what I'm reading here on the uesp is wrong, though I'm guessing that is more likely.~~

May I suggest making it easier to start this quest? Not only is it not very clear, it's also pretty random

Arthmoor, I can't find back the topic you're using for reports of unused contents, so I'll report it here. I don't know if this can be of any help.

NPC ref 0002FFEB ('hunter') seems to have a specific name : Urwa. It only appears as a dead body in Brood cavern interior (ref 000152AE). Maybe it was originally intended to be more than just a corpse ?

May I suggest making it easier to start this quest? Not only is it not very clear, it's also pretty random

I thought the lectures were fixed in USKP. I remember seeing lectures, then they went away for a number of versions, then they were back again.

Most of this kind of thing uses a time field O(n) to prevent repeats until all the randoms are done. But the time field is usually limited to 24 hours. We need on the order of days.

Sad to report that as I've progressed to Solitude, discovered that carriages don't work around the new mill and farm SE of Dragonbridge.

For the mill, there was a forgotten Finalize or something, Also, forgot to generate cover. Results in bad borders and missing borders. The road navmesh was severely edited, resulting in non-working mess.

Now, this was alerady an odd place, one of several where I've had to set markers off the preferred navmesh. It won't work otherwise in vanilla. But this makes it so that the horse literally refused to go that way at all, and runs all the way around the other northern path....

Speaking of the northern route, in TC 2.2.5 I'd recently removed northern pathing between Morthal and DragonBridge (forcing all traffic to use southern route). One reason is that Real Carriages and Scenic Carriages both removed or moved that tree out of the way, as did I. Instead, CRF (loading after) raises it higher! Makes it highly annoying to pass!

Anyway, I stayed up all night and analyzed the problems. Just sticking with the mill, I've got a patch to fix it. I simplified the road navmesh (starting from vanilla with fewer changes). While I didn't touch the mill cell navmesh organization, I had to swap some border triangles -- some of them had been renumbered, resulting in half-links. Got to keep all the border triangles! Adding more works, but removing any of them is disastrous.....

I started to fix the Farm, but gave up. It's a real mess!

Also, there's a third place where the new house north of the bridge at Whiterun causes the horse to jog off he path to the left.

I've only fixed the 00015EBA and 000E8B41 and 000E8B61 so far, because those are the immediate TC conflicts.

* needs repair indicates the border triangle has been renumbered.

* > new limit indicates the edge link table is smaller, usually border triangles have been deleted. This is the worst of all possible worlds, as other modders in adjacent cells will still be jumping into those non-existant triangles, and CTD. Never delete border triangles!

All the links are there, and in the same place. But the side of the triangle has changed. Somehow it was rotated. Now this won't cause a CTD, as the triangle is still there, and it's the correct one. Usually the CK rotates a border triangle to add cover. Edge 2-0 doesn't allow cover, so by default it puts the links on edge 2-0.

But in this case, the cover wasn't a problem. The link already was on Edge 2-0. This was human error. I rotated it back so the old table matches.

I'm looking at these navmeshes in the CK now. Loading only CRF, because frankly CRF is all I should need to worry about if you're claiming CRF's navmeshes are bad. I see absolutely nothing wrong with them. They all work, and I even went out of my way to undo changes to the cell south of me so your carriage stop at Markside wouldn't have a bad experience.

You've got a whole slew of cryptic data spit out by a TES5Edit script only you seem to know much about and you're expecting anyone else to even make sense of. I dunno, but you're asking an awful lot.

See that red line at the lower left corner? The one that should be green?

Or you could try something else: load TC and CRF, sort with LOOT, and take a trip from Whiterun to Morthal. Then, load TC, CRF, and TC-CRF, and take the same trip.

Version 1.1.2

Orthorn has dialogue implying he'll return to the college at a later date. He will now go to the Frozen Hearth in Winterhold and sandbox there until the player becomes Archmage. At that point he will take up a normal routine at the College itself.
Fixed a poorly placed tankard and a basket clipping through the floor. (Bug #18282)
The College guard should no longer prematurely jump Ancano to cause an infinite combat loop. (Bug #18469)
The enchantment value on the Staff of Fading was not consistent with other expert level staves. (Bug #18475)
The new staves added to the leveled lists were in inconsistent lists based on their spells. (Bug #18476)
The two Saarthal miners did not have persist locations set which may have been impacting their placement when entering the dungeon. (Bug #18474)
The civil war soldier swap at Frost River was not being done correctly. The markers for the local soldiers are now parented to the markers in Morthal and will switch when Morthal switches.
Corrected a bad navmesh border connection in cell 8,-3 which should solve problems with navigation to Chillfurrow Farm. (carryover fix from USKP)
The map marker at Heljarchen now has an enlarged radius so it will be discoverable from the road.
The map marker at Stonehills will now indicate it as a settlement instead of a mine. (Bug #17593)

Load Dragonborn.esm in the CK (only Dragonborn) and look at the topics which are referenced by these dialogues. Their refs are 000e652a, 000e652b, 000e6529, 000e67f2, 000e67e6.

Yes, it looks like Rieklings can join the blades. Only Delphine doesn't have the good conditions on her recruiting topics to enable it.

Hmm, I think I'm going to have to respectfully disagree, I think it would be pretty cool! I see Rieklings somewhere between humans and beasts (kind of like how goblins are portrayed in Morrowind and Oblivion) and I think it might add to the temptation of siding with the Rieklings on Solstheim (assuming that mead-hall quest was a prerequisite for recruiting these guys).

I totally get where you're coming from, though.

I can provide a savegame where I sided with rieklings if you wish.

These voice actings are blank in the US version of the game, but they're perfectly dubbed in some foreign versions (at least they're present in the french version). Anyway, due to rieklings nature and language you may just replace these voice actings with generic rieklings growls and groans (unless you find a correct dubber, but I guess this kind of 'scratchy voice' can be achieved by almost everyone).

Notes :

2 Delphine sentences (refs 000e67ee and 000e3e64) perform a sex check on the actual follower. As rieklings have no such attribute, the 'male' sentence should trigger by default.
rieklings should not recieve any new equipment after this, and no new AI package (they can't handle torches and shields, for example).

And as for the relevance to restore this, I understand it's quite disturbing and debatable... In the game mechanics rieklings are pets, not followers. But hey, I reported this only to prove that some existing content related to the 'blades recruiting' is present ingame (or at least, some topics make it explicitly possible because there are no 'locks' on them). :shrug:
