Arthmoor
http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1363941-planetelderscrolls-will-no-longer-support-new-files-from-the-1st-of-may/Someone linked that through on a Nexus post. It appears as though PES is about to tank coming in May, saying they will no longer accept new files. That doesn't just affect Morrowind either. That's going to be site wide due to IGN layoffs. That could mean problems for Oblivion modding as well since it's one of the few places to find things like Qarl's Texture Pack. What makes this worse though is that it appears as though file downloads via the PES pages are all fubar. They are downloading into the browser as text rather than as proper archives. So it may already be too late to do anything here.I don't know how many of us here care, I only used them as a mirror, but there it is. At least there's notice, for whatever that's worth.I know it says they're only going to stop accepting new files, but since there will be no tech staff, the site will be living on borrowed time once May rolls around. Dwip
That's going to be pretty unfortunate for the Morrowind community. Awful lot of stuff there was PES-only.
Hana
That thread is going crazy, people are freaking out already with DOWNLOAD EVERYTHING NOW! SAVE IT!Does the MW community not care about modders rights and not re-hosting without permission?Looks like Rider will step up again though. Arthmoor
Well in a case like this, I'd be inclined to make an exception to the no-rehosting terms. It boils down to one of two things: Rehost, or lost it forever. I think most mod authors would be fine with another site picking up the slack as long as it didn't result in mass copying to 15 other sites "just in case".Darkrider really doesn't have to do much more than say "hey, we've had a Morrowind area the whole time" and go from there. The IPB software has matured quite a bit, and TESA is riding the cutting edge as far as the downloads module.Hopefully people will start their exodus sooner rather than later, because these sorts of dump jobs by large corporate entities rarely care if the users are ready for it to happen. Dwip
That said, the Morrowind community does seem to me to have always had a slightly different consensus about such matters as opposed to the Oblivion community. Different times and all.

QTPR. That's a pretty big gap between top-level and QTP-Reduced.
Sigurð Stormhand
You know, it's shocking how quickly the mannic sheep are calmed when given some vague commitment to continue hosting their files.Hello guys, IGN still laid off the tech support.Oh, and obviously the obligatory snooty Oblivion and Nexus bashing. Arthmoor
I think they're going to regret getting lulled into a false sense of security. APY can't guarantee jack shit once May rolls in. IGN will still be making noise about more layoffs. We all know that eventually translates into shuttering the resources that are no longer being maintained. They're going to get caught with their pants down and their open hatred of Nexus will leave them with no other solid options.

Thomas Kaira
I love it when people condemn Nexus for being a porn site because people host adult mods there.News flash Morrowind-a-holics: everyone else thinks you are a bunch of stuck-up assholes because of how your community treated the Oblivion community when Oblivion was released. You could get away with it so long as you had your own (semi)private hosting area for mods, but that is going tits-up (*rimshot*) now and you are going to have to find someplace else. That means integrating yourselves with the community you once tried so hard to separate yourselves from. This is a moment I would rather not be ruined. It's been a decade, why can't we all just get along?
Arthmoor
Looks like Nexus is going to pick up the slack by separating Morrowind and Oblivion from each other, as well as including NMM support for it. Depending on how long that takes, I'd say the hard part is done and people just need to start moving their mods over.

Hana
I doubt that will win the support of all the haters out there. Also, Rider is in the process of working things out with APY.
Arthmoor
Working things out in what way? A wholesale transfer or something? While that would be most excellent, people need to avoid getting caught up in the whole "one Morrowind mods site" thing again. Mirroring not only protect them, but it protects their fans as well. Hana
Yep, the entire site, not just to appease the MW crowd. Of course it has to be worked out with IGN first so not saying it's going to happen just yet.
Arthmoor
I don't see why they'd refuse. They already allowed DarkOne to do a wholesale transfer of the NWN database over to Nexus. Either way though, that would be the best news PES users could hope for.Is he planning on taking the Oblivion stuff too?
Hana
Yes, all of it. As is. They do need more moderators tho. Not sure if APY is sticking around.

Hana
Sorry Ysne, didn't notice your reply. It just means he's offered his server space, the same as Arthmoor moved over there. No affiliation, just the space that's supported.I also see in the BGS thread that Fliggerty is offering to absorb the site in GHF. Was already gathering files last I read.
