[RELz/WIPz] Unofficial Skyrim Patch

Arthmoor

Recommended Posts

  • The "Floating Grass Fix" detailed on the CK Wiki has been added to the USKP ini snippet. Floating landscape was confirmed present in vanilla content and the settings confirmed as not present in the Skyrim.ini file. (Bug #17074)

Arthmoor is there any need for that to be in both ini's ?

On the CK Wiki they say :

Open up both Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini and at the bottom of the [Grass] section add/alter this:

  • bAllowLoadGrass=0
  • bAllowCreateGrass=1

The ini worked fine for installation via Wrye Bash which made the change to Skyrim.ini, but obviously if the CK Wiki is correct then the skyrimprefs.ini also needs doing which would have to be manually edited in addition to the USKP ini edit.

Actually that doesn't matter. A mod based ini will override both files.

:geek: I learned something new, :cool:

Well, just when you thought the Placed References tracker was empty, it now has a fair few more entries for a rainy day. Pete won, I cant find anymore for now.  :gnight:

But the question was whether those lines should be present in both the inis, I think.

But the question was whether those lines should be present in both the inis, I think.

Do you mean what if someone is not using USKP for some strange reason ?

In that case I would go with what the Wiki said and put the entries in both ini's personally, if one is wrong that part of the ini will just be ignored by the game

:) I was doing the same thing before asking the question yesterday ...

csLnug9.jpg

( I made two Wrye Bash INI Tweaks the same, with different names just to remind myself that both ini's need the tweak applied )

But those edits are redundant with the mod ini installed

I guess it works like Load Order - Last loaded wins ( Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini will be loaded early, and then mod ini's later overriding them, which would adopt the same load order position as the mod they are for )

Nope, just curious whether the wiki is correct in that the lines should be put in both the files, no matter the method used. Yea I am aware of the "load order" :)

oddly enough i have them in both my ini files, and i never put them there. are yo sure the game engine doesn't just place these values there automatically after the first game start?

Positive. Pete posted a bug with floating grass, then confirmed he didn't have the settings in either of the files. So they're not automatically added. They may have come with an official patch somewhere along the way that didn't update the ini files. That's why it's in the USKP's ini file now since it's a legit issue with the vanilla game.

well, i know freshly made inis do not contain a lot of settings, only after you first enter both interiors and exteriors ingame will all settings be added. i tested this recently. so if you have a habit of refreshing your inis regularly, but then setting them to read only before going ingame, those settings will be missing. did pete set his inis to read only?

Conkers - Just deleted Skyrim.ini, and SkyrimPrefs.ini

Deleted USKP ini

Launched game with the launcher to let new detection and ini generation happen

Then just set my in game settings.

Did not touch Wrye Bash

Skyrim.ini reads :

[Grass]
bAllowCreateGrass=1
bAllowLoadGrass=0

SkyrimPrefs.ini reads :
[Grass]
b30GrassVS=1
fGrassStartFadeDistance=4550.0000
fGrassMaxStartFadeDistance=7000.0000
fGrassMinStartFadeDistance=0.0000

Those are just game generated, the latter set obviously from me tweaking the in game settings slider for grass fade distance.

Maybe this is why the Wiki specifically mentions setting it in both, because without both it does not work, and by default its not set in SkyrimPrefs.ini

Either way up, the USKP ini will sort it out when installed ( by overriding them both no matter set or not ), and if its not required in SkyrimPrefs.ini then the game will just ignore the invalid entry for that ini = No problem if its set.

using 2.0.6beta by 2.0.5a save file

just found that the Jeweled Goblet still floating away,

do i need to start a fresh new game for the fix apply? thanks man

No, but you probably do need to apply the patch while you're not still in the same room as the object. Plus if it's already floated away it'll probably stick that way because the game has updated its position. Should all sort itself out when the cell resets next.

Arthmoor - Got a fix for Issue #16647 ( Pixellated Forsworn Tents [Hagraven houses] )

Download link is in the comment.

Tried to get a 512x512 version, but because of the very fine detail of the veins, any attempt to correct it with variates of filtering degrade the image.

Best attempt is to upscale it with Bi-cubic interpolation ( smoothing for enlargement ) to 1024x1024
Then a little noise, plus fine Gaussian blur filter with just a touch of fine Unsharp mask to finish it.

Because the colour threshold dips you get 'holes' in this texture, so then just apply a little colour curve to fill the holes in the near black.

Saved as per original texture DXT1, no alpha, remipmapped, but at 1024 x 1024. Considering these tents are bigger than NPCs, which have body textures at 2048 vanilla size, I think this increase is within reason.

imho it works well.

A good way to look at these is get a Briarhearts tent at dawn with clear weather, the side of the tent facing the sun makes the light glow through the texture material showing the veins.
Have a look without the fix installed first.

The above screens on my laptop, with no AA, no AF and very close up. Try on your own machine.

I think they look even more like veins under the skin now than they did before.

Edit : I had a look at Issue #15646 aswell, see my comment there and screen, I dont think thats an issue.

I know this is a rather old fix, but I belive the error with Shor's Stone being an ebony mine, when NPCs say its an iron mine, is rather an error of dialog, rather then the ore itself.

Both Morrowind and TESO(canonicity debatable), state that ebony is the blood of gods.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Raw_Ebony

Raw ebony is one of the most precious substances in the Empire, and most of the continent's deposits are here on Vvardenfell. Raw ebony itself is an extremely hard, durable, black glass-like substance, said to be the crystallized blood of the gods. Raw ebony is protected by Imperial law, and may not be mined or exported without an Imperial charter. Ebony smuggling is a profitable but dangerous source of illegal wealth on Vvardenfell." Tendris Vedran and Anarenen

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Hrorvild_Blackrock,_Nord_weaponsmith

“Now that ebony, that is a true wonder. I’d love to see what a real Nord smith can do with it, now that we’ve got access to more. Hard to get much before the Pact—most of it comes from Vvardenfell, and the Dark Elves guard it like a sabre cat over her cubs. I heard it’s the blood of a god; that’s what they say, at least."

This is fitting given that most ebony is found in Morrowind, where Lorkhan, known as Shezarr to the Imperials, and SHOR to the Nords, heart was cast.

This in turn connects to the town's own name SHOR'S STONE, stone made from/by Shor, his blood crystalized into solid formm aka ebony. The name Shor's Stone literally means ebony

I noticed something that might be a game mechanic rather than a bug, but which doesn't make any sense at all.

If you use brawl option in dialogue and win, your speech skill increases. I don't think that should be happening, because for that you have the persuade or intimidate options, no?

Squeaky clean, not even a glimmer of an error.

Finding more mesh placement / rock gaps for the bug tracker ( all previous logs to the one above where I broke off to report them were similarly clean ). Running around a lot of the coutryside, talking to a few characters in Whiterun, more countryside exploration to the west, then did the cidna mine foresworn quest in markarth, more countryside running around, fighting bandits, and fighting foresworn at a redoubt, various random encounters out in the country again with sabretooth cats, bears, loads of critters and a dragon who got too nosy ..

.. The dragon bones - I did an unrelenting force on them and they did not move very much which I think is expected ( though not sure because 'magic' is mentioned as the problem, what type of magic isn't )

Everything I needed to check that I reported as a problem which have been addressed in this beta are all proved fixed.

Prior to this log though many more places visited today ( about five hours worth of adventuring in all ), all were clean

Yes, shouts would be included in that since the game treats them as a form of magic. We like squeaky clean logs too :)

If I were the QA lead at a game studio I'd say this would be a good time to release the game. If I were working for anyone but Bethesda :P
