Lonewanderer Posted June 13 Posted June 13 Hello, just playing Skyrim again, on PC, version 1170, latest USSEP, SKSE and recommended mods, SkyUI, and a few other mods, nothing about spells, except the additions that came with AE, CC mods and the DLCs. My character in this game: Breton, level 47, pure mage, mastery in Destruction (all perks except rune and the highest elementary perks, like disintegrate), Conjuration (twin souls), Alteration (all perks) and Restoration (necromage, not stamina during healing, rest of the perks are taken). I am not complaining about the game too hard, I have no troubles - but it becomes more and more boring, because I keep loosing spells, because the NPCs are just out leveling my spells! The ONLY effective spell (except Azidaal's ring of Arcane) is Firebolt (+ dual cast + impact + augmented flames). It is the ONLY effective spell to hold enemies at bay. (Ice Spike is less effective, thunderbolt even worse). I can win nearly any fight solely with Firebolt, Azidaal's Ignite is even better. But that's it. Just did Ansilvunde: Only Draugr Death Lords, nearly no other enemies. And they can be easily dropped with 5-6 Firebolts, stun locks them, they cannot even shout (and they have exceedingly well working Talos blessing, and shout every 3 seconds or so). It is actually easy (I play on Adept), but boring. Turn Greater Undead is much too weak. Bane of the Undead works just barely, but since its range is much too low, I need to use the Ethereal Form Shout, let them gang up on me to cast. It works, but on or two of them finish their power attack spam before turning to flee. Script problem, maybe. I die anyway, because the Alteration Mage Armor with 300 AR does not work very well. And blocking is impossible. So better use Ignite (Azidaal's ring) or Firebolt. So my expert/master spells I worked for become more and more useless because of this idiotic system with maximum level. Master Bane of the Undead? Ludicrous, just use apprentice Firebolt with perks, because this at least works. This leads to boring magic fights, because essentially one uses just 2-3 spells, the rest no longer works. It is different with magic user enemies, there can be fun and challenging magic duels. Things like Wall of Fire do not enough damage, they run through it, loosing 1/2 of their health, and kill me with one or two attack. It is no fun at all. Similar with normal bandits, who become ludicrously strong with permanent power attacks, Stamina reducing magic does not work, because they probably have 12000 Stamina or so. Guess what works best? Firebolt stops them in their tracks, the same goes for Bears, Trolls and the like. Varying magic use is out at higher levels, the only fun is with other mages, there you can vary and experiment and win. Paralyze usually works fine too, but after they fall down I need to reduce their health, and this takes ages, because spells do not do enough damage. Can be fun with single attackers, but if a horde of Draugr Death Lords or Bandits or more than one Bear attacks, one uses better - Firebolt... The problem could be fixed in an easy and balanced way: Wherever there is a level limit, raise the level limit for characters above a certain level, so that enemies do not out level most of the spells. Example: Turn Greater Undead - not a very powerful spell, as it does no damage at all. It ends with level 26. At my current level (47) this is laughable low, will be ignored by most of the Undead. As I see it from my current game, the entire leveling system works and seems to be calculated for character levels up to 30 or so. How about rising the level limits by one point for every character (player) level over 30? Would mean for a character with level 47 the level limits are raised by +17. Not the world, but would help. Is there a mod, which does this? I looked at several well known and less known mods for spells, but mostly they add a ton of new spells, and implement skill scaling, which is not needed IMO. What we need is a slight compensation for the high level monsters/enemies, which are spawned in higher player levels, so that certain spells no longer become completely useless. Useless, because a Bane of the Undead spell which kills 2 filler skeletons and a filler Draugr, and leaves the 3 Draugr Death Lords nearly unharmed (according to Wiki this master spell works up to level 30, with Augmented Flames perk 50% (which I have)) up to 56, but this seems to be a bit unclear, because I need to let them gang up on me, because the range is ludicrously low, I need to use the Ethereal Form Shout to cast it, and then on or two of them finish the started power attack on me, and I am dead - afterwards they flee. Makes sense... Any comments/ideas? Thanks
