It's been a long time (probably vanilla) since I'd run the check and clean navmesh xEdit scripts on this patch. This time, it was to try and figure out whether it affected falling deaths in Windhelm.

Sadly, there are quite a few new'ish errors. Now inaccessible island triangles. Triangle paths not found. Border edges that don't match.

The first thing most easily cleaned up will be "not found". Here's the v4.3.6c (2025-08-31) check output:

0010CD85 was intentionally disconnected due to being a vanilla island.
00103B5A was intentionally sunk due to being a disconnected island.
00106361 was a vanilla island that's been intentionally relocated.
000FA1E2, 000FA1E3, 000FA1E5: All intentionally sunk due to being vanilla islands.
000F9AA0 was intentionally relocated since it's a vanilla island.
0002C993 was intentionally relocated sicne it's a vanilla island.
All 9 of the ones in Shalidor's Maze are intentionally relocated because they were vanilla islands.
0400EE12 is intentional because the original vanilla navmesh was a large island disconnected from the other navmesh in the cell. It was reduced and sunk on purpose.

All this script has done is waste a bunch of time on intentional edits that were done because you can't merge navmesh islands into each other without it causing a deletion in the process. Check your findings next time. Not even going to bother checking all of the other island reports in this because they're all likely to be due to the same issue. There are TONS of these kinds of problems in vanilla and this is the only solution to those problems.

As for Solitude and Sightless Pit, those will be addressed despite them not showing up in any other reliable reporting source.

Some folks have found it useful. If there was some other way, then I'd probably not have written this script, and it wouldn't be included with xEdit. Disappointed that you don't regularly check your patches.

This is the output of all disconnected triangles. It's very similar to the Check Navmesh command, but works globally. It is correct.

No. It's not correct because the script reported a bunch of "Island 0" complaints for intentionally edited navmeshes. I see no value in that. It's just noise to waste time on.

I'm also not convinced the "Not Found" things are entirely accurate either given the absolute mess Sightless Pit was before I even touched it.

And for the record, the CK is notorious for spitting out tons of spurious messages that mean nothing. So I've generally paid little attention to it because that too is often a waste of time. Sorry if you don't think my time is valuable.

We don't know what the flag is named internally, "Found" is the xEdit name. It is set by the CK.

In this case, it is entirely accurate, but takes a bit of effort to find and fix. There's another isolated 1 triangle island 000ECFFC with vertices in the exact same locations as 00037F7B vertices. Probably an autogeneration error. Exactly what the report intends to find.

You and I both know that $500/hour is what we bill the client.  The engineer only sees $100/hour; at most.  The rest goes to lawyers (contract and IP and governmental compliance who file the required federal, state, county and municipal forms) and accountants (at least one CPA) and equipment (to duplicate client software configurations) and taxes (federal, state, county and municipal) and insurance (malpractice and performance bonds and business continuity) and retirement funding and keeping the lights on in the rented office space and at least one external auditor to make sure that none of the others are cheating you.  :D  

I grew to hate it all.

Let's not be measuring former renumerations rates now.

I don't want to even have to calculate what my students were being charged for the privilege of me teaching them, but I'm sure I only saw a tiny fraction of it.

Me too. In my case, 30+ years as a one person shop, so saw more of the remuneration. But accountants and lawyers and taxes, oh my! (And tax audits and tax court.) Then lost nearly all my first retirement savings in the 1999 crash, and most of my second retirement savings in the Great Recession. Of course I've given all my published designs away for free, being part of the open source community (since before it was even named "Open Source").

My last job was global head of standards for Red Hat, overseeing funds for research and facilties at various universities and other non-profits, helping make the world a better place.

My point (perhaps insufficiently elegantly expressed) is that for many of us time is valuable, yet we all need to pull together as part of this community effort. My contribution is fixing pernicious bugs with the same attention to detail that made my publications and designs and code part of nearly every computer operating system.

It pains me dearly that we are fixing bugs for a hundreds of million dollars product. My justification is helping the otherwise abandoned users.

Arthmoor has kept this site going, while others are long gone. Also the projects need a maintainer. I'm thankful for that work and the team.

That USSEP added triangle 13 is the key. It is sideways, shares all 3 vertices with the rest of the navmesh, but has no connected sides. Probably a CK mistake, as it shouldn't be possible navmeshing by hand.

Another problem is revealed by the "Skyrim - Clean edge links in navmeshes" script. A pair of edge links was lost:

Finally, xEdit reveals some USSEP changed edge links are going the wrong way; up and down have been reversed:

So I've started over again (as can be seen by the screenshots) with minimally added triangles. Now it works.

Still to do, the other "not found" triangles. USSEP adds a lot of triangles that aren't properly connected. A vanilla island [NAVM:000F43EF] may be the problem. Re-loading and re-checking the USSEP changes is very slow and tedious.
