Sigurð Stormhand Posted February 20, 2024 Posted February 20, 2024 A new arrival recently pointed out that we don't have a welcome thread. So, go nuts guys - just no violence. smr1957 1
smr1957 Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 (edited) Great idea - glad to see it implemented so that we all can meet and greet the new members as they arrive! And to all the new arrivals - welcome and glad you are here! Edited February 21, 2024 by smr1957
Renee G Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 (edited) Okay HERE I am! Pretty sure I'm the n00b being referred to! I'm Renee G. Just joined here yesterday. I do a lot gaming, a bit of modding (mostly quest-writing) and love the cooking and outdoors. Have one daughter who is now in her third year of college. Am 54, voila. Gonna go into my entire gaming history now, hold on. Saw my first videogame (PONG) when I was nine or ten. It was 1979, and I was at a party filled with mostly wasted adults, some of whom were playing this very simple game ... on TV! That blew my mind, along with the minds of the wasted adults, to play a game on television. Back then however, there were no videogames, except in arcades, as some of you may know. Home consoles & computers like the Amiga hadn't become popular yet. During the '80s my family got an Atari 2600, while a friend of mine got a Commodore 64. That was interesting; I stuck with gaming consoles all my life, while she's still a PC gamer, almost strictly. Anyway, I got a Nintendo in college, but during most of the 1990s actually was not gaming at all. I consider the '90s to be my gaming "Dark Ages". Year 2000: I was actually homeless by choice, living in Portland, Oregon where winters weren't so bad. Even though I was homeless I still had a job; I worked nights at a printer, often crashing at friends' places (or in my van) during the day. One of these friends had a daughter, who also had a Playstation. And one night I watched her playing Tomb Raider. THAT blew my mind: a 3D game which went on and ON and on... it seemed like that first excavation in Peru would never end. Since I worked nights, I often slept during the day, but in this case I woke up earlier than usual at some point so I could sneak some Tomb Raider on my own, while my friend was at work / kids were at school! :p Wasn't long afterward that I moved into a house, and got a Playstation of my own, so I could play Tomb Raider all I wanted! 2002 or 3: I saw Morrowind at a party, assumed it was on Playstation or PS2, alas it never was. I actually spent most of the 2000s looking for this fantastic game with all the fog in it, unaware it was Xbox or PC-only! :O October 24, 2008, 9:24 PM: Got Oblivion after reading about this game in an online game-reviews site. Yep, I still remember the exact date and time I rolled Lady Anne, my very first character! Played OB for HOURS, and called in 'sick' to work the next day, so I could play some more! November 11/11/11: was outside my local Gamestop at midnight, for obvious reasons. 2013: Got my first personal computer. Used it for playing Oblivion until I got a clothing mod which slowed my framerates to slideshow speed! 04/14/2014: got my first gaming computer, which I still have. Began modding right away, of course. Nowadays I'm comfortable enough with computers that I'm thinking I might build my own, before Elder Scrolls VI comes out. But I also still enjoy the simplicity of console gaming too. That's enough for now! Edited February 21, 2024 by Renee G smr1957, Fenrus, Pseron Wyrd and 2 others 5

Goldenbucket Posted March 6, 2025 Posted March 6, 2025 Hey guys its me goldenbucket, im completely new to modding, ive deceided to hop over here and check out some mods (since nexus is being fantastic with its 2FA and it "accidentally" banned me). Goldenbucket Posted March 6, 2025 Posted March 6, 2025 EDIT: I just realized I didnt reply to the welcome thread, I might be stupid
lmstearn Posted March 7, 2025 Posted March 7, 2025 Hi Goldenbucket, welcome to AFKMods! Bad luck about NexusMods, have you managed to contact anyone there about it? Thank goodness nothing received this way as per 2FA, there's many more emerging and existing sites that are enforcing it these days, unfortunately. Sooner or later life will be a lot easier on the couch with something like scrcpy or Pushbullet. Goldenbucket 1
Renee G Posted April 3, 2025 Posted April 3, 2025 Welcome here, Goldenbucket. Sorry to hear of your troubles at Nexus. Sigurð Stormhand 1

johanis666 Posted April 5, 2025 Posted April 5, 2025 Hi, Johanis666 here: casual gamer, modding for around a year, forum lurker as I generally don't know enough about stuff to say anything useful. I actually joined here last October but a late hello is better than no hello!! Sigurð Stormhand, smr1957 and lmstearn 3
jamochawoke Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 Hello, modder from forever ago; worked in the games industry for over 10 years. Mostly here for finding ancient old information (arcane?!?) on modding Oblivion since that is my favorite game of all time. Also a chat now and again would be nice. Cheers! lmstearn and Sigurð Stormhand 2
Bill_the_Dog Posted October 2, 2025 Posted October 2, 2025 (edited) Hello! I'm Bill the Dog... I'm a gamer from the time of Commodore 64, Gameboy and Nintendo. I played on-line text games in a forum on a dial up modem. One was called 'Galaxy Pirates' or something like that. I also played "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" on a text driven game room. Never could get by the babblefish machine. Since then I've graduated a little to favor games like 'The Witcher' (all versions), Dragon Age and of course Elder scrolls IV and V (Oblivion and Skyrim). Now I've discoverd modding and spend almost as much time learning about it as playing. I'm making mistakes but I listen to people in the know and try and sort out the ones who make it easy and some who should be playing and not teaching. But, no offense to those who try but I was a science teacher and instructional computer aide for over 25 years. I believe that to teach is to touch a life, and many of you have been instrumental in getting me through some tough situations (like reinstalling MO2, Skyrim, Steam, GOG...and it goes on. Again, thanks for sites like this and for allowing me to tap into your resouces. Edited October 2, 2025 by Bill_the_Dog Sigurð Stormhand, lmstearn and smr1957 3
IcewaterKat Posted October 2, 2025 Posted October 2, 2025 Hiya, I'm IcewaterKat (supposed to be like cool Kat) I've lurked here off and on looking for information or content for a long time but didn't say hi or thank you. Hi and a very big thank you because I have found the solutions to a lot of problems and some mods from here over the years without showing my appreciation. Kat smr1957 and Sigurð Stormhand 2

Nostalgia Kid Posted December 19, 2025 Posted December 19, 2025 Hey. I am Nostalgia Kid. I grew up with the Fallout games, and recently got it inside my head to maybe create mods for those games, and others as well! I just needed a place to upload them. But Nexus Mods has a rather strange policy regarding ownership of your mods, or rather the ability to remove them from the site, as you all know, probably. I also hope this place will act as a more mature place to discuss games, as the Steam community seems rather uncultured at times. Thanks for reading! Scythe Bearer and lmstearn 2

With eyes on culture as the prize, Steam forums were never the first port of call in my interactions despite many friendly folks and a considerable knowledge base. Welcome!
