Modding Skyrim SE on Linux - A Headache Minimization Guide This is an extremely detailed guide to modding Skyrim SE on Linux. The guide is 60 pages long with step-by-step instructions, commands, and pictures detailing the process to set up the modding environment for SSE on Linux from start to finish. Modding Skyrim SE on Steam Deck My guide is specifically for Linux PC users, but you still might find some help for Steam Deck. I don't have a Steam Deck to test or help with. Thankfully, omnipherous has written a series of guides for Steam Deck and Wabbajack users on Linux here: https://github.com/Omni-guides/Wabbajack-Modlist-Linux/wiki In this guide you will learn: how to install Steam's Proton and SSE for the MO2 Linux Installer how to install and use Wine, Winetricks, Protontricks, Mod Organizer 2 on Linux for modding SSE how to install two major Windows dependencies, Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2022 and .Net 7, which are necessary for many mods and modding programs to run on Linux how to install ENB on Linux basic debugging help, Linux tips, and other various tips Once you complete the guide: You will be able to install and use almost any mod that has mesh replacers, texture replacers, BSAs, SKSE DLLs, ESP/ESPFE/ESL/ESM, scripts, audio, and more You will be able to install and use almost any mod or modding program that requires Windows dependencies like DynDOLOD, TexGen, LOOT, CAO, xEdit, Bodyslide and Outfit Studio, Creation Kit, Nifskope, Wrye Bash, zEdit, and more You will be able to use common programs used for modding Skyrim assets on Linux like Gimp, Blender with the Pynifly Blender Export, and more You will hopefully be able to get ENB working, but ENB is a special scenario and might be difficult to set up depending on your situation I originally had SSE on Linux with ENB and a mod list of over 3000+ mods on Linux Mint. Later, I had the same load order and more with ENB running on Ubuntu. While setting up my modding environment on Ubuntu, I took detailed notes in order to create this guide. All of the mods, tools, and programs listed in the guide I have used personally during my time modding and playing Skyrim SE. Currently, I have over 2000+ hours modding Skyrim SE specifically on Linux. 2. Hi AFK. I'm trying to mod a mod. I've got the Pip-Boy Flashlight installed (it changes the Pip-Boy light from omnidirectional to spotlight) and I'm trying to rotate the light emitter. The reason is because I'm playing in VR and currently it always points to the right instead of forward. I've got no mod creation experience with Bethesda games but I'm a quick learner and was wondering if anyone here can point me to what I should be looking for or what files I should be messing with, it would be greatly appreciated. Here's a quote of my findings from Reddit; Tried adding the file as a loose file and modifying it. Didn't change the flashlight. Tried adding the modified file to 'Fallout 4_VR - Main.ba2'. Nope. I was using the newest v6 BETA of the Pip-Boy Flashlight, so I tried using v5 with it's installer instead. Tried both options of mounting it to the Pip-Boy and to the player head and tried also both the 1st and 3rd person offsetting options. It always emitts from the Pip-Boy in the same 90° offset way, no matter what. The flashlight emitter in VR is definitely getting it's position from somewhere else.
  3. Okay. I recently learned that thread necromancy is frowned upon. Please forgive me. That said. I have the problem of 'Skyrim Creation Kit' CTD after a few seconds of being at 'Initializing Archive.' -I have tried the 'Verify Integrity of Tool Files' through steam -I have tried to go through the Task manager to play with the compatibility (updated) (1) Windows 95 & 98 compatibility mode seams to cause it to take 10 seconds before it CTD Xp to windows 8 takes about 3-5 seconds before it CTDs. (2) Running it in 640x480 screen resolution causes it to CTD in 2 seconds. -I have tried two mods from nexus that were suppose to fix common problems. 1) Creation Kit Stability Performance Fixes by BoneTongue 2) Creation kit fixes by Darkwolfmodding -I have tried setting enableaudio= to 0 -I have tried editing the archive to load the masters suggested ' here ' on steam. I haven't deactivated all my mods to see if that is the reason yet. Should I? (update) Disabled all mods. Nothing. It is in the same folder as my skyrim launcher. Does it matter that that is on my HDD drive ' (D:\) ' ? I'm new to this whole modding thing and I don't know if I should have something additional. [07/15/2020] -Tried downloading via Bathesda Launcher and received an error message that 'Steam_api64.dll was not found' unistall\reinstall. Same error. -Zmerge In Vortex by Yggdrasil Modding pointed out a mod fix, but.... It is for the SE addition. Tried it anyways. CTD. [07/16/2020] -Adding 'Plugin list' from modwatch. [07/17/2020] -Tried copy pasting the SkyrimEditor.INI to a version that works on another computer. CTD after 10 seconds when it reaches 'Initalizing Archive.' -Tried making sure only Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x84 was installed. CTD -Reinstalled 2015-2019 knowing CK will CTD anyways. It did. -Tried following instructions on configuring CK provided by Neovalen posted [Here] CTD. -bEnableaudio= is set to 0 again. CTD.- -tried verifying integrity of tool files. 1 file failed. -uninstalled - reinstalled, run program. CTD. -Added the text back to Skrimeditor... CTD -unpacked and followed instructions correctly with the 'master fix'... CTD. Deleted it and Final in frustration. -Searching for more information. [7/22/2020] -uninstalled Skyrim & DLCs -deleted a folder of mods filled with redundancies that I had installed from another computer -reinstalled CK twice -made sure Skyrim's language was set to English (was already set to English) -Somehow, someway... It opens now. No CTDs on start up. Next step, I'm going to make a seperate folder for the .exe I will use to play Skyrim.
  4. Hi All, I’m a long-time TES fan (but only a lurker here), and currently a PhD student at Bond University in Australia. I’m really amazed by how much TES fans do around the series, in terms of modding, compiling data in wikis, producing fan films and more. More broadly, my research is actually about what cultural heritage organisations can learn from commercial RPGs in order to produce great culture-oriented RPGs themselves. A part of that argument is looking at Skyrim and showing just how much world-building detail is involved in its world, but then I’m also arguing that it’s crucial to collaborate with fans – to give them the necessary means to produce mods and other works around a given game, in order to push it even further. To show this, I want to document who the TES fans are, and how they work. I’m limiting myself to two particular groups – the lore-oriented folks at the UESP and the modders (yes, yes, I know some people do both ), especially (but not exclusively) those who publish mods on Nexus Mods. Myself being a modder (not TES, though – Wing Commander) and game developer in past lives, I have a pretty good idea about how much work is involved in fan projects of any kind, and how much effort fans put into learning all the skills needed for these projects. Not to mention the time devoted to better understanding the lore of the TES universe! My anonymous survey asks you to help document this by answering a bunch of questions about your experience as a TES fan, particularly in regards to Skyrim. If you have fifteen minutes to spare, please, pretty please answer my survey, and let others know about it, too! The more responses I get, the more interesting the results will be. And to thank everyone for their efforts, I will later on write a report from the survey for the UESP, so that as the TES community, we all know a little bit more about what makes us tick. tl;dr – got 15-30 minutes to spare? Please answer an anonymous survey about what you as a TES fan do with the games, particularly in regards to modding (at Nexus) and lore-related activities (at the UESP). If you agree to take part in this survey, please click the link here. The survey page is mobile-friendly, so you can also do it on your phone - and actually, while it might take up to 30 minutes, most people get it done in under 15, so it's not so bad :). Needless to say, should you change your mind, you can close the survey any time you like. Oh, and feel free to contact me at jmajewsk (at) bond.edu.au (or just post here) with any other questions or comments about the survey! Thanks in advance to everyone who decides to give it a go! Jakub Majewski P.S. Apologies in advance if you've already read about this at Nexus, Bethesda, or at another forum - I've already posted about this in a number of places, but I'm just trying to make sure I reach as many people as possible ;).
  5. Nifskope problems: The textures aren't showing up once selected. How do I fix this??
