    [WIP] The Alien Diversification Project

    The Alien Diversification Project by oddlittleturtle Download PC Nexus: https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/5850 PC Bethesda: forthcoming PC ModDB: forthcoming Xbox: forthcoming ABOUT THE PROJECT The Alien Diversification Project is a Starfield Game Mod with a focus on making the discovery and scanning of alien lifeforms more diverse and both visually and dynamically engaging. While some planets do have many lifeforms to scan, the creature lists look like they are structured like previous Bethesda Studio games where the player does not start seeing new color variants until a higher level. It works for game performance-related reasons, but at the same time, diversification is one of the things that make zoology, biology, and evolution interesting fields of study. On Earth, various methods of reproduction ensure that species evolve past the initial parents' genetic structures into individuals rather than clones. It should be no different on alien planets, especially not in a controlled, fictional universe. Project Goals Add new variants by first using new textures and introducing more discernable size adjustments (including sizes that would simulate the probable look of juveniles), then adding new models as tools (and skillsets) for such become available. Upgrade the AI packages into a more advanced nocturnal-diurnal system for all habitable biomes so that a different set of scannable creatures are available at night while in the same biome. Expand player rewards for accomplishing 100% scans on planets. Upgrade predation between carnivores to prey upon their own species, such as the case with earth arachnids during courtship rituals Introduce believable taxonomies for discoveries Introduce a new joinable biology/zoology-related faction with recruitable crew, player housing, and mission boards Basically, if you want to be Steve Irwin in Space!, the project goals should be what you want for your game. (And I am open to suggestions.) ABOUT THE TEXTURES Right now The Alien Diversification Project is only in the initial stages and is only a texture replacer. There is a lot to get through, I am still working on projects for Fallout 4, and I am waiting for the Creation Kit to be available before doing any plugin work for the Project. Plugin creation with third-party tools is only in its infancy and for everything that I want to do, the community had to wait two years or more for those tools to be updated for Fallout 4. The mod download currently covers over 40 alien creatures, with over 700 recolors to choose from, and will grow as I work my way through the texture folders. Just extract, copy the chosen texture into the correct folder, and rename the texture. Full instructions are included in each creature download. The textures are the diffuse/color textures only and are the original size that came with Game Pass. The resolution ranges from 2k to 1k. Most of the "variant" colors are 1k. Due to file size and the possibility of performance issues, I have no intention of increasing the resolution. Each creature is a separate download. You can also choose to download it per type (all creatures within a subfolder such as bipeda or floatera) or you can download the All-In-One which includes everything. Not all textures will make it to the final product. These are just released to give players some diversity right now and to get feedback and suggestions from the community. Choose your favorites, and help me decide which to keep and which to cull. (I made too many.) TECHNICAL LIMITATIONS The Creation Kit is not yet out to create actual variants or archive the textures into a neat, easy-to-download BA2 package. (or do what I want for the project) The textures right now require renaming to the actual texture you would like to replace. Loose files in the data folder cause performance issues on other games. I'm going on the assumption that it will be the same for Starfield. When the plugin version is available, you will need to clean up your data folder to remove any loose files added. I have no intention of supporting ReShade, ENB, or script extenders since they are not available for Game Pass. The colors are based on the vanilla game light source. If you don't like it, use another mod or make your own from scratch. I have no intention of providing support for any mod other than my own and any patches between this Project will not be supported, especially if they are not for mods I will be able to play with on Game Pass. KNOWN ISSUES When I started, I had never intended to upload loose files so this might be a bit overwhelming for anyone who has never modded a game before. (I mean, there are over 700 textures so far. I'm overwhelmed.) It will take a bit to set up on your end. DELETE the ones you aren't going to use!! I derped the coloring of bipeda_dodo_01 & bipeda_dodo_02. I did not realize they were part of the same model and had them all loaded as separate files for the adjustment layers. The colors of the wings do not match the bodies. I've included them anyway in case someone wants them, but just know they're changing once I finish the rest of the textures. If you have a favorite, let me know. It will help me narrow down the variants for the Project. COMPATIBILITY For purposes of compatibility and for things on my end, all files in the 7z have unique names and will not overwrite the original files. That is what you must do after you choose the colors you want. Just delete the ones you aren't going to use instead of keeping them floating around. FAQ Q. Loose files???! D; A. Only way to look at them atm. I would like feedback on what needs to be culled. There are 700 textures so far. D; I was expecting more opinionated comments from NexusMods. I am confused. Q: Why did you make this? A: I got tired of waiting for the Creation Kit and got bored. So. 700+ textures because of 2 hyperfocus sessions. Plus hype. I'm excited to be making it. I want others to be excited too. Q: Do you know which alien goes to what texture? A: Haven't got a clue. (I assume the bipeda_foxbat goes with the Foxmeat mod though.) The Creation Kit is not available yet. I attempted to play on Game Pass PC but my rig ran Starfield for all of 15 minutes, started crashing too much to play, and then I switched the cloud save over to Xbox. This is pretty much the OPPOSITE of what happened when Morrowind came out. Morrowind killed my original Xbox after 15 minutes. LMAO. Bethesda, don't change, pls. Q: Will this be on Game Pass/Xbox? A: Yes. I fully intend to support Game Pass modding, whether it be PC or console. Especially since that is the platform on which I play. Hopefully, by uploading this many textures, someone at Bethesda will do something about possible file size restrictions before Microsoft says 5 GB. I don't want to have to nerf my creativity like I've had to for Fallout 4. Furthermore, I don't think Game Pass players be able to switch saves back and forth on the cloud for Play Anywhere if the load order isn't the same. PROJECT ROADMAP Nothing is guaranteed and is totally subject to change. This is what I'd like to do, know how to implement, and am going to try to implement in my game at some point.   5. Hey guys, completely fresh moder here, I don't know shit from chocolate but I managed so far in Skyrim, but for some reason FO4 is a different story for me. For some reason I have trouble with mod compatibility and unlike in Skyrim, this simply isn't clear enough for me.   6. A lot of old fix mods are still floating around out there. Many of which have been absorbed into the unofficial patch over time. Having these older fix mods can cause problems with the game if they are left in place. Especially those that installed loose scripts. Below is the known list of mods we've been able to compile to date which are now obsolete and should be uninstalled from your game. Do not simply delete the ESPs, you must uninstall them through your mod manager to be sure ALL of the files that go with them are deleted as well.   7. Hi All, I’m a long-time TES fan (but only a lurker here), and currently a PhD student at Bond University in Australia. I’m really amazed by how much TES fans do around the series, in terms of modding, compiling data in wikis, producing fan films and more. More broadly, my research is actually about what cultural heritage organisations can learn from commercial RPGs in order to produce great culture-oriented RPGs themselves. A part of that argument is looking at Skyrim and showing just how much world-building detail is involved in its world, but then I’m also arguing that it’s crucial to collaborate with fans – to give them the necessary means to produce mods and other works around a given game, in order to push it even further. To show this, I want to document who the TES fans are, and how they work. I’m limiting myself to two particular groups – the lore-oriented folks at the UESP and the modders (yes, yes, I know some people do both ), especially (but not exclusively) those who publish mods on Nexus Mods. Myself being a modder (not TES, though – Wing Commander) and game developer in past lives, I have a pretty good idea about how much work is involved in fan projects of any kind, and how much effort fans put into learning all the skills needed for these projects. Not to mention the time devoted to better understanding the lore of the TES universe! My anonymous survey asks you to help document this by answering a bunch of questions about your experience as a TES fan, particularly in regards to Skyrim. If you have fifteen minutes to spare, please, pretty please answer my survey, and let others know about it, too! The more responses I get, the more interesting the results will be.   10. Hello, I am a PC user of Skyrim that has been using mods for quite some time. This however does not concern me directly. I have a friend who recently purchased the Special Edition on Xbox One to play with mods. The issue is with the Dark Brotherhood quest "Mourning Never Comes" wherein it tells hi mto talk to Muiri (for the second time) after she tells him to kill some people. It says she is in Markarth but the quest marker puts her far into the ocean past the mountains to the north on the map. He has walked around in Markarth for hours looking for her but it seems like the game genuinely dropped her in the ocean. He is using -USSEP -Relationship Dialogue Overhaul -Adventurer's Chest -Populated Forts/ Towers As I said I have been using mods for Skyrim and Bethesda in general and it seems like it couldn't be an issue with the mods he is using. I am reporting this with hopes that either you would be able to replicate and find a fix, or tell me a solution. Either way your mod said to report special edition bugs so here I am. Much thanks
  11. In case you're living under a rock: https://bethesda.net/#en/events/game/mods-and-4k-coming-to-ps4-for-skyrim-and-fallout4/2016/10/04/221 PS4 mods are back. Before you get your hopes up though, one important statement in there needs to be highlighted: What does this mean? It means PS4 mods that are not fully functional with just a single ESP file are out. "External assets" for Skyrim and Fallout 4 are stored in a separate archive file. This means no custom meshes, textures, music, audio, voiced dialogue, or scripts. It's the scripts that are going to place the biggest restriction on what can be done. What it means in practice is basically that something like USLEEP/UFO4P cannot be offered for PS4 users because they both rely on external assets to be functional. Not much point in a patch if it can't even be allowed to edit and compile updated/new scripts. That said, ESP-only mods are better than nothing at all and perhaps down the road Bethesda will be able to convince Sony to loose their sphincters a bit more.
  12. A lot of old fix mods are still floating around out there. Many of which have been absorbed into the unofficial patches over time. Having these older fix mods can cause problems with the game if they are left in place. Especially those that installed loose scripts. Mirroring your mods. Folks, THIS kind of thing is why you should be uploading mods to more than one site. When you put everything on a single site, like Nexus, you become subject to the possibility that one day they will be the ones making an announcement like this. Servers aren't cheap. Life isn't always fair. Shit happens and people often find they can't continue what they love doing. So spread yourselves out a bit. Exclusivity may feel like you're being loyal, but in the end the only one it will ever hurt is you when a site goes belly up and all the stuff on it disappears forever.

It uses the xEdit codebase as an API, and can be used with Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout New Vegas, and Fallout 3. Merge Plugins Standalone is the successor of my Merge Plugins xEdit Script. Features Merge Plugins Standalone is a feature rich application that offers numerous advantages over my Merge Plugins Script, let alone manual merging. Below is a list of some of the most notable features: MERGE PROFILES: Create profiles to manage different games or load orders. Each profile has its own settings and merges. MERGE TRACKING: Merges are tracked. When you update a mod, any merges that mod is a part of will be classified as needing to be rebuilt. INFORMATIVE GUI: A rich, extensive GUI gives you all of the information you need to know to make merging decisions on the fly. ASSET HANDLING: Merging manually will break the association of your source plugins with certain assets, leading to bugs. E.g. the grey face bug, voiceless NPCs, and garbled MCMs. Merge Plugins handles all of these assets for you, moving them to correct paths so they can be found by your new merged plugin, preventing these bugs from occurring. SCRIPT FRAGMENT HANDLING: Papyrus script fragments are used in Bethesda games to handle crucial logic in Dialog Topics, Quests, and Scenes. When merging the FormIDs of certain records have to be changed due to conflicts, which can break the association between script fragments and their associated records. This leads to bugs such as dialog not triggering events, quests freezing, and broken scenes. Merge Plugins Standalone locates broken script fragments, decompiles them, adjusts their source code, renames them, and then recompiles them. BSA HANDLING: The program detects BSAs associated with plugins being merged, and accesses the assets in them as necessary for asset handling purposes. It can also fully extract BSAs for plugins being merged, or create a merged BSA from the BSAs associated with the plugins being merged. MOD ORGANIZER INTEGRATION: Merge Plugins integrates with Mod Organizer even better than the Merge Plugins Script. Merged mods produced by Merge Plugins become mods in Mod Organizer without any post-merge steps. Just merge and go! USER REPORT SYSTEM: Merge Plugins Standalone connects to a server which has a database of user submitted reports on the merge-ability of plugins. Unlike the Merge Plugins Script, you can easily create and submit reports on plugins you've merged directly from the application. Once submitted to the backend, reports will be reviewed and added to the dictionary file if approved. There is a separate dictionary file for each game supported by Merge Plugins. Help yourself by referring to the documentation when you have a question. Setup 1. Unpack Merge Plugins somewhere. E.g. C:\Program Files\Merge Plugins. 2. Start Merge Plugins. 3. If you don't see a profile for your game, right-click in the box and choose "New profile", then specify a profile name, game mode, and game path. You can browse for your game path by clicking on the browse icon. 4. If your profile is valid, its background color will turn a shade of light green. You can then select the profile by clicking the game icon (or any other part of the panel). 5. Once you've selected a profile, click "OK". Configuration When you first start Merge Plugins you should do some initial configuration. To start, click on the gear icon near the top of the window, this will open the Options Form. Once there, you'll want to: (1) configure integrations Go to the Integrations Tab. If you're using Mod Organizer, check the "I'm using Mod Organizer" checkbox. Then click Detect Integrations. If any integrations aren't found, you'll want to install them or browse to find them on your system. Make sure you verify the paths found by Merge Plugins, especially for Mod Organizer if you have multiple installations. (2) set your asset destination directory Go to the Merging Tab and click the browse icon by the text box. The folder you choose here will be where merges are placed. If you're using Mod Organizer this should be your Mod Organizer mods folder. (3) set merging options Go to the Merging Tab and check the boxes corresponding to the options you want to use. You'll want to use "Extract BSAs" or "Build Merged BSA" if you aren't using Mod Organizer. You can leave everything else as the defaults. (4) register a username Go to the General Tab and enter a username in the username text box. Click "Check" to verify the username is available. Once you have a username that's available, click "Register". This username is put on reports submitted to the backend. A username is required if you want to submit reports on plugins you've merged.
