  2. I'm not questioning your expertise, far from it, i hope i'm not giving that impression. But since those ba2 files that i removed contained the vanilla player voices (completely identical to the vanilla assets although with a slightly different pitch) wouldn't my plugins revert back to using the vanilla voice files? Which means that as far as my saves are concerned nothing has really changed?
  3. Thank for the reply, that's what i was afraid of. Although i managed to circumvent the issue by only removing the ba2's containing the audio files and keeping the plugins. Because those esp's are empty and don't really require those ba2's, i managed to get rid of my mod without endangering the stability of my saves.
  4. Can't think of a better place to ask, this place is like the Library of Alexandria of modding. I already had help from some very friendly folks over at Reddit about the subject but i'm excessively paranoid when it comes to the stability of my games so i'm checking different sources. I'll try to keep it short. For the longest time i used a mod i created to slightly heighten the pitch of my characters voice, using dummy plugins to load the BA2's with the assets. Because of changes to Fallout 4 this method has become redundant. I can no longer get this to work with the dlc's specifically. Fortunately, i found an alternative: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/56605?tab=description&BH=0so, that part is covered. What i would like to know however is whether it's safe to remove my mod and it's plugins from an existing save since they now have become obsolete. Those plugins are empty, contain no data, and their sole purpose was to load the audio assets in the BA2 files. But since it's anathema to remove mods in an existing game i wanted to have confirmation that my specific case is the exception to the rule before i do anything drastic and ruin a play through that was perfectly stable up until now.   5. This actually pertains to an Enderal mod but i still think this is the correct place for my question since its similar to its Skyrim counterpart. Most of the mods i installed for that game had to be scrubbed clean of certain Skyrim records in order to avoid a boatload of unresolved errors, mostly those associated with Container, Cell and Worldspace records. I did all this before starting my actual play through in order to eliminate the chance that it might mess up my saves. Unfortunately, i realized today that one mod (a skimpy armor replacer) somehow slipped through the net and might very well be a ticking time bomb in my load order with all the unresolved references it contains. I'm not only talking about the regular records i mentioned above but also more tricky stuff like leveled lists that seem to serve no purpose. This is the dilemma i'm facing right now. Do i take the risk of breaking things by removing those broken records, leveled lists included, in an existing save or do i leave well enough alone which could mean that sooner or later my game is going to become unstable? For what it's worth, i'm fifty hours in and i have yet to encounter a crash, infinite loading screen or other game breaking bug. Long story short, what would be the recommended course of action?
  6. Thanks for replying, Arthmoor. You know, i've been hearing left and right (mostly on Reddit) that cleaning the masters was no longer an essential step and i've been trying to make up my mind ever since. But if an authority of Bethesda modding such as yourself seems to think it does not make a difference either way then i will refrain form cleaning the official masters if i ever have to reinstall Skyrim SE again (i will still use SSEEdit to clean my other mods, that goes without saying). For now i will just pick your first option for my current installation because "it just works".

After having had a smooth ride for the past month with Skyrim i had a nasty surprise today when i found out that huge parts of Apocrypha had simply vanished, preventing me from reaching Miraak and punching that pretender in the face. Turns out it's a known bug if you clean the dlc without adding the -DontCache argument to the utility beforehand. If reports are to be believed it also meant that the Soul Cairn area from the Dawnguard dlc was affected by the same glitch. Fixed it by putting back the dirty masters and cleaning them again with the argument added this time. However since i'm not familiar with the intricacies of the Quick Auto Cleaner i would like confirmation that i did not mess things up further by using the tool with that argument on the dlc's other than Dragonborn and Dawnguard (that would be Update.esm and Hearthfire.esm). Thanks in advance.
  8. For my last two playthroughs i had this oddest of bugs in the Helgen intro sequence. Leaving character creation would force me into third person view up until the point where my bindings got removed, after which i could freely switch between the two views. I never thought much of it because it was quite the novel experience to watch everything from a different perspective. Today, as the last step in rebuilding my mod list, i was cleaning the mods that LOOt had flagged as dirty and to my amazement the bug was gone. Everything was back to first person. Now, out of curiosity i'd like to know if someone can point to the culprit among the eight mods i cleansed which were: Survival Mode, Beyond Skyrim Bruma, Project AHO, Midwood Isle, Natural and Atmospheric Tamriel, Amazing Followers Tweaks, Darkend and The Forgotten City. My money is on Survival Mode because it is the only one of the bunch that was present in every one of my playthroughs. (i guess it would be quicker to put the dirty version back in my load order to test things out but i do not know if doing so repeatedly will mess up my bashed patch) Thanks in advance, i'll check back here this evening. *Edit* I forgot to add that the only mod the itm could interfere with would be Customizable Camera. *Edit2* Resolved, turned out it was my custom race causing the bug.
  9. I'm five days into rebuilding my mod list and i noticed something troubling. Two of the mods in my load order are missing Update.esm as their master, one of those two doesn't even have Skyrim as a master. From everything i've read over the years i gathered that every mod should at least have Update.esm as a master file, let alone skyrim.esm, for the sake of stability. So, should i add them myself using SSEEdit or should i leave well enough alone? (I did not mention the mods by name because i do not wish to point fingers but i will if it is required for troubleshooting)
  10. Ah okay, thanks for clearing that up. I suppose there's some solace to be had in the knowledge that it was all inevitable in the end. (it also means i should contact the hit squad i sent to Bethesda headquarters and point them to Valve instead)
  11. Since i'm new here i do not know if i'm allowed to post more than once so i'll reply to everyone in this one post, hope that's okay. I am grateful to every person in this topic who was kind enough to answer my question, thank you! I think it would be best to start over completely because on top of the Gray Cowl issue i mentioned there was one other item of importance that i forgot to include. Apparently Bethesda has struck a deal with Steam to force-update their games when those titles haven't been updated for a while. It happened to my Fallout 4 game about a week ago (i'm still assessing the damage done) and the same fate awaits Skyrim in three months time if i have calculated correctly. Since that game hasn't been updated since July 2019 it will most likely completely break my saves if i try to install the most recent versions of the mods that became outdated. On top of that they have removed previous versions of Skyrim from Steam.DB so there is no legal way left to downgrade again. My issues with TGCON were just the last straw so i might as well bite the bullet now and reinstall from scratch. Thanks again guys for helping me make up my mind, i really appreciate you sharing your expertise. And Arthmoor? The Unofficial Patch will be the first mod i download when i start over because unlike other mods it has never failed me up until now.
  12. I found out today that a player home for the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal mod suffers from the Underscore bug resulting in my saves not appearing where they should. When i tried to fix the problem with SSEEdit by removing those underscores from the cell and worldspace names of the player home i discovered to my horror that the main mod is riddled with them too. Now what? Removing a mod of this caliber is not an option unless i want to truly break my saves and keeping it will sooner or later start to corrupt those same saves if i'm really unlucky. Reverting to an earlier save is not doable because i have no back up saves without the mod. By all accounts i am stuck with a ticking time bomb in my load order. Is a full reinstall in order, this time without TGCON? I've been considering the option for other reasons anyway because my Skyrim Special Edition has become quite bloated and crash-prone as of late. I could honestly not imagine a better place to explain my dilemma before deciding whether to take such a drastic action, thanks in advance.
