Exactly what I like:highfive:

Mark King and Level 42!  Hell yeah!

What a wickedly bouncing funk groove!  That is one I hadn't heard before.  Danke vielmals, Leibling:wub:  You truly are a rare treasure, aren't you?  Liebe dich so sehr, mein Schatz.

Mark King is likely the most underrated funk bassist ever.  There are dozens of guys that can play faster and more intricately than Mark.  But, his uber groove is undeniable!  Level 42 was right up there with Duran Duran and the Cars for me in the eighties.

I haven't heard these guys in many years, dear friend.  There are still some gaps in my 80's Pop Radio Plus playlist...  Fixing a rather large gaping hole in there right now, thanks to your kind and generous assistance.  You are like a warm, gentle hug by the fireside on a cold winter day...:run:

Level 42 doesn't get the credit they deserve in large part due to them getting labeled as a new wave pop act here in the states.  They made an exceptional combination using elements of funk, house, new wave, techno and pop.  Mark King is brilliant on bass and vocals as well.  Why he's not as popular as Sting, I may never understand.:fear:

By the way... right back at you, dear friend:hug:

I'm adding some Level 42 to my 80's Pop Radio Plus right now.  You can find it here...  https://www.youtube.com/user/phatbassanchor/playlists

Being a fellow musician, you should find lots of goodies at that link. :)  Okay... back to digging up Level 42 and adding it you my playlist...

Adventure ever on mein Schatz, Phat:blackhand:

Okay... I added some choice Level 42 selections to the 80's playlist...  gaping hole patched.  If you know of songs that might fit any of my playlists, please feel free to make suggestions.  My tastes are rather diverse and vary wildly depending on my many various moods.

But, you got me funkin' right now... So...  Here's a couple tracks from a list I call Fresh Groove.  The fresh is not an indication of more recent release dates as one may surmise.  Fresh Groove is for those selections that never get old, no matter how many times I hear them...  Like...

And...

Or maybe you need more love too:wub:

The groove comes from inside us and has no bearing upon what instrument we play...

Real groove comes from the heart and soul...

It takes many forms...

But, it doesn't always have to make your booty move to move you... sometimes it is soft, gentle and somehow rather familiar...

But, Fresh Groove is all that and a bag of chips for me.  It's the ones that absolutely refuse to be worn out no matter how many times I spin them up.

Mark King is the greatest bassman for me. But I'm also a huge fan of Marcus Miller.

And I love DMB

Me too:run::hug:

You have exceptional taste:wub:  Everyday is such a killer laid back groove.  Love it:wub:

Hard to pick favorites with DMB.  I usually just let the whole album play:run::wub:  However, I am rather partial to Jimi Thing, Two Step and Stay...

DMB was really love at first listen for me.  I heard this...

And said, "who the hell is that bassist?"  Phat was hooked!  Under the Table and Dreaming and Crash pretty much got me through much of the 90's.  Feeling a little bummed?  Just plug in some Dave Matthews...:highfive:

Marcus Miller deserves his own post.  I give Marcus mad props and respect.  I drew my funk style from many different influences, Larry Graham, that cat that played with Sly Stone, Jaco, James Brown, Stanley Clarke, Flea, Mark King, Pino Paladino... and the list goes on and on...  But, the single greatest funk influence on my playing came from Marcus Miller.  I still have like half a dozen David Sanborn CD's that feature Miller, some solo stuff and collaborations as well like with Billy Cobham and Steve Gadd... amazing stuff with deep, dark funky grooves and just the right amount of intricacy to hold interest without getting so fancy that the average listener doesn't get it.  Marcus walks that fine line of "just enough" better than anyone else in funk.  I don't have much of his stuff stashed away on yt because it's all saved to my system drive!  Hahaha:rofl:  But, do have at least one on my yt listings...  it's a Jeff Healey tune featuring Marcus Miller on bass and David Sanborn on sax...  See the Light...

Doctor John on keys on that number as well:banana:

The thing I admire most about Marcus Miller is his amazing versatility, even switching back and forth between thump and finger style and grooving both with equal ease and dexterity.  That video showcases that versatility rather well...

Thanks for sharing your musical joy, Liebling.  You got me to add Level 42 to my 80's list and a pile of Marcus Miller to my Jazz and Fusion Favorites list...  Hell, Marcus Miller was one of only a handful of players that could ever best Jaco at his own tunes!  Hahaha:rofl:  Here's proof!

But, the one that started it all for me... the very first time I ever heard that amazing bass...  was right here...

And, Phat was hooked!

Thanks again for sharing some joy with old Phat today.  Danke vielmals, mein Schatz:wub:  Hopefully, I was able to reciprocate in kind.  You are truly a joy to have as dearest friend, Tasheni:hug:

I'm a child of the seventieth. Through and through. :P

And I have collected a lot of stuff from these great musicians like George Duke, Billy Cobham, David Sanborn, Pat Matheny, Steve Vai, Helmut Hattler (best german bassman ever), Klaus Doldinger and so may more...

I will continue on the audio thread.
