About This File

The Traveling Merchants

Houses that you own can have a special chest somewhere around the house, but most of the time near the front door. The merchants will visit your home(s) quietly and discretely. They will take everything that you store in the chest and you will receive payment 48 hours after, which you will receive immediately in your inventory.

Once you own a house, you will have to enter that house once, to enable the selling chest. Enabling the first chest will also enable the merchant chest and start the 48 hour polling.

The main file covers the player buyable houses from the base game and DLCs: Breezehome, Hjerim, Honeyside, Proudspire Manor, Vlindrel Hall, Heljarchen Hall, Lakeview Manor and Winstad Manor, and additionally Floating Island of Legends and Goldenhills Plantation.

Requirements

  • Skyrim Special Edition v1.6.1170+
  • Skyrim Script Extender SKSE64 version 2.2.6+
  • CC  Farming
  • Floating Island of Legends

Recommended

  • Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch (USSEP)
  • SSE Engine Fixes

Features

  • Selling prices are the same as in the base game and will take the Haggling and Allure perk into consideration, as well as the Amulet of Zenithar.
  • The Fortify Barter magic effect will only be used in the calculation of the selling prices if applied to armour and clothing (not potions).
  • The Allure perk will always be taken into consideration if you have unlocked that perk.
  • Selling prices will be maximized at 95% of the value of the base object.
  • Selling of items will be considered as separate sales for each item, where in game selling items will require you to sell similar items one by one.
  • If an object has a base value of 0, it will be considered to have a value of 1.
  • Travelling merchants only buy and don’t sell, but have unlimited resources as they are employees of a very wealthy but secret organization.
  • It is unknown how many merchants are travelling around Tamriel. Nobody has ever met one of these travelling merchants.
  • Speech skill increases and sales prices are based on the formulas from the UESP levelling pages.

Example

Suppose your Speech skill level is 30, you have unlocked Haggling rank 2 (15% better selling price) and Allure (10% better selling price), and are wearing the Amulet of Zenithar (10% better selling price). You want to sell items for 5000 base gold value.

SellingPrice = ItemValue * SkillPriceModifier / BasePriceFactor

BasePriceFactor = 3.3 – 0.013 * Min(SkillLevel, 100) = 3.3 – 0.013 * 30 = 2.91

SkillPriceModifier = 1.15 * 1.1 * 1.1 = 1.3915

SellingPrice = 5000 * 1.3915 / 2.91 = 2391 (rounded to the nearest higher integer)

SpeechXPGained = SkillUseMult * BaseXP * SellPriceModifier + SkillUseOffset

SpeechXPGained = 0.36 * 5000 * 1.3915 + 0 = 2504.7

NOTES

  • Depending on the amount of items you store in the selling chest, it may take a while for the game to calculate the sales prices based on the available perks, etc. (as described under Features).
  • Either be patient or do something else in game. At a certain point you will see a notification in the upper left of the screen. This notification will present you the total value amount of all items you have stored in the selling chest, which is the base value for calculating sales prices and for speech skill increase. Do not interrupt the calculation process by opening the chest before seeing the notification, as it may lead to incorrect sales prices or incorrect speech skill advancement.
  • Once you see this notification the selling chest will be empty and you can store new items in the chest. You don’t have to wait 48 in game hours before storing items in the chest or any other chest that may have been enabled.
  • Everything you store in any selling chest within a 48 hour cycle, will count for payment after the 48 hour cycle is completed.
  • There are no actual merchants in this mod. They are very discrete, secret and will never show themselves to the player.
  • The Allure perk counts for every player without regard to sex or gender.
  • If needed, this mod can be converted to an ESPFE by using SSEEdit.
