Open Cities Reborn 1.1.12

About This File

Open Cities Reborn takes the concept of Open Cities and steps it up to the next level. The project redesigns each city covered by the original Open Cities in such a way that would make more sense strategically. The castles become a more central focus of each city's layout, with housing, commerce, and the cathedrals spread out around them in more distinct ways. When possible, concept art provided by Bethesda was followed as closely as space restrictions would allow. Where none was provided or where it was not practical to follow, creative license was used instead. City walls in several cities have been modified to suit the location. For example, Bruma now uses wooden palisades, Cheydinhal has lower brick walls that reflect Dunmer influence, and the city part of Bravil has no walls at all instead relying on their island nature. This has the added bonus that each city is now more visible as you approach. Rather than large imposing walls that block the entire view, you can see buildings on the other side along with most of the trees and bushes.

To avoid any serious compatibility issues, and because lore calls for it to remain fortified, Kvatch is not touched in any way.

The Imperial City will also remain in the layout it now has since strategically speaking, it's already built the way it should be. Although there is room in the concept art for some somewhat radical adjustments to be made. That may or may not come at a later time.

To get the most out of these changes, it is highly recommended to download Animated Window Lighting System and Chimneys. This is the evolution of Texian's Window Lighting System and is fully compatible with Open Cities Reborn.

To go with that, and provide LOD for all the new goodies, I also recommend: Really AEVWD. Just be aware that there's a bit of a performance hit in activating all the extra LOD that Open Cities will provide that's directly proportional to the power of your PC, and how many other mods you have installed.

What's New in Version 1.1.12

Released

Cheydinhal: Updated the sign texture for Nardala's shop, courtesy of Laulajatar.
Bartholm: The animated city gate was mistakenly flagged as an automatic door which would cause the player controls to be locked out with no way to bring them back other than using a console MoveTo command.

I've had twice now, once in Cheydinhal and once in Skingrad, a random horse in the middle of the city nearly phasing through the load door to a building. As if it spawned there.

Anvil is also untenable for me right now. Multiple guards and civilians swimming in the bay that used to be land around the mermaid statue. They seem to think they can just path right through it, so they go for a swim, then get stuck because the slopes of the banks are too steep.

Given enough time the guards in Anvil will get out of the water. You may need to leave the city for a bit for it to happen, but it will happen.

That is of course assuming you don't have some other mod or set of mods overriding the path grid changes that were needed to make everything work.

I have no idea bout some random horse. That's not a thing that happens in vanilla and there's nothing in OCR that would lead to it either.

Makes sense. Guess I need to spend more time with it then. Thanks. 👍

I've got some floating walls on the north end of Cheydinhal, hovering over a pond. I've added on open cities to Dispensation's modding guide and I'm not sure what's causing the issue. Any ideas? I've attached example images

That's probably a conflict with the UL Cheydinhal Falls mod and you either have them in the wrong order or don't have the patch for them installed.

No, that can't be it as I didn't have Cheydinhal Falls installed. I even installed the mod and applied the patch to see if that made a difference and the walls are still floating

Cliff Racer Dumb Mer is not present in new Chey, also found out behind Anvil Rat Lady House there is a floor higher than it is suppose to be and floor going under which covers a nirnroot

I don't know what "Cliff Racer Dumb Mer" is supposed to mean.

As far as Arvena's house in Anvil, nothing is blocking a nirnroot there and the entry to the basement is not blocked in any way.

I'm getting a couple of floating shop signs down on the Anvil docks, any idea what could be causing this?

I have Crowded Cities Redone (and the Open Cities Reborn patch for it) and Unique Landscapes installed, I've tried messing with the load order but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

It would appear that somewhere along the way they did away with the discreet patches and made the open vs closed state a toggle within the mod.

Unfortunately this means that it's toggling the state of BC itself and not something that would be compatible in any way with either OCC or OCR.

You'd have to go ask Vorians on the mod's Nexus page if any such patch files still exist somewhere.
