NewBackground2.thumb.png.dd11ef94fcca51eba9431d39c8232a08.png

Welcome to the new and improved Gruffydd's Signs and Posters!

GS&P is a Fallout 4 mod that adds more than 900 custom signs, posters, and a few other items, all available in your settlement menus.

You'll also get every vanilla sign or poster I could find, now merged in with GS&P. Formerly, these were in the Signs of the Times add-on mod. Those signs and posters, along with a bunch more newly added, are now all in one plugin for this mod.

So how does it work?

GS&P is now in modular format. This means that you will need the base mod (GruffyddSandP), and then can pick and choose which of the plugins you want to add on. All of the plugins are flagged as .esl, so they won't count against your mod limit.

Just choose the ones you want, along with the base mod. Be sure to install SMM (Settlement Menu Manager) first, though, as this mod uses SMM to add a separate menu, with the stuff inside sorted into different subfolders to reduce scrolling and make it easier to find objects.

Some of the plugins are chock full of stuff, others not so much. It was designed to be expanded later, as I have time to create more stuff. This especially applies to the different factions. Right now the only one I've done a lot on is the Minutemen, but others will come later.

What plugins are included?

Added Settlements - New settlement signs - generic, BoS, Institute and Minutemen - for more than a score of new non-vanilla settlement locations. These are locations that are either obvious choices or ones that were specifically requested, and are for use with mods that add new settlement locations or that allow you to select or create your own.

Businesses Contains everything that relates to a place of business that isn't included in another category.

ChurchGraveHolidays - A catch-all for anything that might include religious stuff. Churches, graveyards, posters related to holidays, that kind of thing. I got a request from someone a while back to add some items for their religion because it was so underrepresented (as in non-existent) within the vanilla game. I did, and also added in a couple of items for other religions. If you want something added, let me know. If the whole thing offends you, just don't use this module.

Community - All of the community assets, things that a settlement would see as a common resource. Things like schools, a community greenhouse, a community pool, a crafting hall, and a community notice board.

Entertainment - All things entertaining. Music, movies, clubs, billiards, and so on.

FactionsBrotherhood - Everything relating to the Brotherhood of Steel.

FactionsInstitute - Everything relating to the Institute.

FactionsMinutemen - Everything relating to the Minutemen. In addition to generic stuff, there are items added to support three different visions of the Minutemen. The first is a benevolent communal effort, where everyone pitches in to help create a better wasteland. Optimistic if possibly naive. This is what Preston seems to be wanting, as far as I can tell. The second is a militia, organized along military lines. It's there to protect people and settlements and to fight off or eliminate threats. Everything else is up to the settlers to deal with. This is more like what the pre-Quincy Minutemen were, like the ones at the Castle. The third is a dystopian version, where the Minutemen are just as corrupt as any of the "bad guy" factions. The General rules with an iron fist, and dissidents vanish in the middle of the night, taken for "re-education".

FactionsRailroad - Everything relating to the Railroad.

FactionsOther - Anything that's a faction that's not one of the "big four". This includes raiders, atom cats, enclave, gunners, and so on. Right now this is very sparse, but I'll add stuff later, especially if anything specific is requested.

FoodAndDrink - If it relates to food or drink production or distribution and doesn't fit in one of the more specific plugins (ex: Community Greenhouse) it's in here.

GenericAndMiscellaneous - All of the generic signs and other stuff that didn't fit in any of the other categories.

GenericSettlements - All of the settlement signs that aren't affiliated with a faction. If you want the faction versions, they're in the faction plugins.

Graffiti - Various images and text designed to be "spray painted" onto a wall or similar surface. Includes a craftable spray paint object that is needed to make any graffiti. Don't worry, it's easily crafted.

LawAndSafety - Everything related to law and safety. Police/sheriff stuff, warning signs, signs welcoming or warning off certain types of people, that kind of thing.

Lodging - Anything that relates to a place where you can stay. Mostly hotels and motels.

Vintage - Real-world stuff old enough to be out of copyright that doesn't fit in one of the other categories. At this point, it's all WWI and WWII propaganda posters that I thought would go well with the overall theme of the game, set up to look worn and faded.

In addition, there are three other plugins that are "finished", in that I don't expect to be updating them.

SignsOfTheTimes - All the stuff from the old Signs of the Times mod, plus a bunch of other vanilla signs and posters that I found and added. If you're looking for a vanilla sign or poster, it's probably in here.

VegaOne - All of the stuff designed by guest artist VegaOne.

MurkwaterOil - All of the stuff created for a specific build someone wanted to make at the Murkwater settlement location.

Pick the ones you like, leave out the ones you don't. It's that easy.

What do I need to do to install it?

NMM Community Edition: Use the Install From File function (a yellow puzzle-piece looking thing on the left side of your screen).

Vortex: Drop it into the area at the bottom for manually installing mods.

MO2: I don't use it myself, but I've had reports that people using the current version of MO2 have had no problems with manually installing this mod. If you for some reason do, please try a completely manual install (placing the files where they need to be manually, without using MO2, then activating the mod in MO2 once everything is where it needs to be).

Something Else: Heck if I know. There's all sorts of stuff out there, I guess. Read the manual for your mod organizer, and see what it says about manual installs.

No matter how you install it, you will need Settlement Menu Manager (SMM) for this to work, so install that first! Be sure to follow the installation instructions for SMM, or it might not load the mod correctly!

A few addendums:

1) There are probably a few items that are in the wrong category. If you notice one, please let me know. I'll move any identified to their proper location when I get the chance.

2) I haven't figured out how to pack these as ba2 yet. All the tutorials make it sound easy, but it just doesn't want to work for me, and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. If anyone has a tutorial that shows explicitly how to do it, and is willing to share it, I would love to see it. For the time being, these are all loose files (just as has always been the case with GS&P).

3) If there's something you'd like to see added, ask. I may not include everything requested, but if it appeals to me or sounds like a reasonable addition, I'll see what I can do. All that I ask is to please be specific. Don't say "can you add more Enclave stuff". Ask for specific items.

This mod has taken many, many hours to make, and future updates will take many, many more. If you enjoy this mod and feel like saying thanks by buying me a beverage, or just chipping some cash my way, please check out my Patreon, which you can get to with the link in the icons below. It's pretty bare bones, because I spend my creative time here on the mod, not on Patreon, but know that if you do choose to support me, it's greatly appreciated!

What exactly do you mean by this?

Graffiti. Stuff you'd see painted on walls. "Tunnel Snakes Rule!", "Romanes Eunt Domus", that kind of stuff. Maybe spraypainted versions of some of the faction logos.

I've got a bunch of graffiti fonts. I'll be making an assortment of stuff, but if there's anything specific anyone wants, request it.

While I do have a bunch of fun graffiti fonts available, even more fun is some filters that I've found which add some fun artistic effects.

This greatly expands the kind of things that I can do with graffiti.

Here's an example:

image.thumb.png.9c8fac004f4a5e19430694598d42d55c.png

I do want to see if I can find a setting to smooth out those edges though, make it blend a little more. Anyone familiar enough with Materials files to know what box to check or setting to set?

Just thought of a few more suggestions that would be good for places like underground stations and other places people that didn't get into the vaults would try and shelter in.

"The end is near confess your sins"     "The end of the world is upon us"  "All who enter here, all hope is gone"

Just been looking at Y tube videos about post nuclear war scenarios.

One of those sounded very Dante's Inferno. I like that story (especially the Niven/Pournelle sequel), so that appealed.

The result:

I've been having some fun with graffiti.

One thing nice about it, in general it's a lot faster to create the texture and set up the files for some graffiti than it is for a sign or poster... maybe 30 minutes per instead of 1 to 5+ hours.

I decided that full paint cans were a bit too hard to come by and too large to make a single can be needed for a single graffiti.

So, I made a new component that you can craft, and use to make graffiti. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. :)

The label is spoofing Krylon paint, by the way.

Found and fixed the problem with the Aqua Pura bottle.

The fix will be going in the next time I do an update.

I did a bit of work on the paint cans, both the regular ones and the spray paint.

With the next update, paint cans will be craftable at the chem station. Full paint cans and spray paint are components that can be used to paint various things such as graffiti or the Railroad's railsign.

In addition, if you have those components in your inventory, you can go to the decorations menu and convert any of them to static items, in case you want to add one as a decoration. A full paint can can also be converted into a static decoration item of an open paint can of various colors.

Again, this is as of the next update, so don't look for it yet. But this will I hope much improve the way the paint is handled, and make it easy to find, craft, and use as decoration. In addition, there are options that let you just use basic components to craft your own paint cans instead of having to scour the Commonwealth for some to use.

Empty paint can + oil + lead = full paint can

Steel + oil + lead = full paint can

Full paint can = Black Paint -or- Blue Paint -or- Red Paint -or- White Paint -or- Yellow Paint

Blue Paint + Green Paint = Teal Paint (x2)

Blue Paint + Red Paint = Purple Paint (x2)

Blue Paint + Yellow Paint = Green Paint (x2) [not the same as the quest component, and you don't need the paint mixer]

Red Paint + Green Paint = Brown Paint (x2)

Red Paint + White Paint = Pink Paint (x2)

Red Paint + Yellow Paint = Orange Paint (x2)

Full Paint Can -or- steel + plastic + lead + oil = Spray Paint (x4)

A blast from the past...

Not a perfect match, because we're not allowed to import textures from previous games (and it would have been low res anyway).

I matched it up as close as I could, while improving the quality of the image.

So, while these signs are for generic settlements, they're pretty specific, and there's 17 of them.

I can see others wanting to use these, but at the same time, they won't necessarily blend in with the other generic settlement signs.

Thankfully, the new mod format works perfectly for this. I'll just make another module (like I did with the other custom request I did, for Murkwater Oil), and then whoever wants to use them can just install that module.

However, it's not going to happen until I get this issue with the Generic and Misc module resolved, which will hopefully be this upcoming weekend.

I've been working on some of these, and had some questions. Specifically, there are some that I'm not 100% sure of the reference for, and some that I don't know what kind of theming you're wanting for the sign because I can't find much real-world data on them.

* Is "Chestnut" the Chestnut Hillock Reservoir location, where you find the story of Edwin and Annika? Do you want it just called Chestnut or Chestnut Hillock or Chestnut Hillock Reservioir? What motto or image do you want with it, if any?

* I can't find anything for East's Watch or Two Suns at all. What are you looking for with these?

Here's what I've got so far. Quincy's hard to see because it's in the shade.

I can't speak for East's Watch or if the original poster had something else in mind but "Two-Sun" is how the city / region of Tuscon, Arizona is named by denizens of the Legion in FNV.

They weren't requested by Cineromantic, but seem to be popular as settlement locations for other people using mods to add new spots, so I'll also be adding the following signs to the new Added Settlements plugin:

Fairline Hills Estates
University Point
Fiddlers Green Trailer Estates
Breakheart Banks
Salem
Atom Cats Garage
Libertalia

Are there any others that people would be interested in having a sign for?

Oh, YES!!! I literally have all these mods except Salem. (That area of the map is so under-utilized. It's sad. Maybe I should add something up there.) I, uh. Might actually have over sixty settlements in the Commonwealth. Problem? No problem. I don't have a problem. I can stop whenever I want.

If I could request: Corvega (there's a mod that adds four settlements called "Fun and Games at Lexington-Corvega"), College Square, Drumlin Diner (the mod calls it "Trudy's Place," the map marker still identifies it as the diner, I just call it "Drumlin" because it seems like a good town name), and Lynn Woods? A bigger one for College Square would be nice, the mod I use basically lets you put an entire small town there. Also, if it's not too much trouble: there's a mod that adds a new settlement called Pilgrims Way right down on the very southernmost edge of the railway tracks. Examining the map from all edges, it seems very likely this is how caravans from outside the Commonwealth arrive, so I like to set it up as a "congratulations! You survived! Welcome back to kind-of civilization!" outpost. Would it be possible to get a somewhat tatty sign that says "Pilgrims Way/Welcome to the Commonwealth" or "Pilgrims Way/You Are Entering The Commonwealth" (or something similar, if you think of something that flows better)? In the same vein as the other settlement signs? Right now I'm literally doing it with the contraptions workshop letters and even though I have mods to make them bigger and snappable it is. Well. You can imagine it's a pain in the ass to try to line everything up and make it visible.

If it's possible I'd also like to request another library sign that says something like "auxiliary branch" (or something similar) rather than specifically naming the community it's in. University Point and College Square especially lend themselves to having libraries, but there's no way to mark them. A couple of school signs would be great, too. I'm using the same "contraptions workshop letters" method for my schools and it's a bit of a pain. (The one I pop up in Sanctuary is the Natalie J. Kaplan Learning Center, named after my Sole's wife, and lemme tell you trying to fit that on the side of a building--) Given the state of the Commonwealth I feel like something like "General School" might come into use, with sort of a return to the old one-room-schoolhouse model, but even something that just says "school" or "learning center" would be better than trying to do this all with the vanilla letters. ("Minutemen Children's Learning Center" seems fun, too, but that could just be me and my love of the Minutemen.)

....and finally I am kind of shocked nobody has done this in any mod ever that I can find, because we really kind of need it: a sign or graffiti with the Long Term Radiation Warning message on it. (Or, well, parts of the message, I don't think the bit about "the danger is below us" is really relevant.) Very specifically I think "This place is not a place of honor…no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here… nothing valued is here. What is here is dangerous and repulsive to us" and "This place is best shunned and left uninhabited" would fit really nicely into the Fallout 'verse.

I'll work on the rest of your post later, when I have time. For now, I just wanted to mention that there are already a small handful of school signs in the mod, in the Community plugin.

Specifically:

* Coal Hill Secondary School

* Community School (All Ages)

* Springfield Elementary School

* Sun Valley High School

Three of those are specific pop-culture references, but the Community School one might meet your needs.
