Play on the XBox? This modular version is now available on Bethesda.net for XB1! Since all of the modules (not the core mod, but the plugin modules) are .esl, they shouldn't even count against your mod limit! Bethesda.net | Gruffydd's Signs and Posters - Modular Mod

NewBackground2.thumb.png.dd11ef94fcca51eba9431d39c8232a08.png

Welcome to the new and improved Gruffydd's Signs and Posters!

GS&P is a Fallout 4 mod that adds more than 900 custom signs, posters, and a few other items, all available in your settlement menus.

You'll also get every vanilla sign or poster I could find, now merged in with GS&P. Formerly, these were in the Signs of the Times add-on mod. Those signs and posters, along with a bunch more newly added, are now all in one plugin for this mod.

So how does it work?

GS&P is now in modular format. This means that you will need the base mod (GruffyddSandP), and then can pick and choose which of the plugins you want to add on. All of the plugins are flagged as .esl, so they won't count against your mod limit.

Just choose the ones you want, along with the base mod. Be sure to install SMM (Settlement Menu Manager) first, though, as this mod uses SMM to add a separate menu, with the stuff inside sorted into different subfolders to reduce scrolling and make it easier to find objects.

Some of the plugins are chock full of stuff, others not so much. It was designed to be expanded later, as I have time to create more stuff. This especially applies to the different factions. Right now the only one I've done a lot on is the Minutemen, but others will come later.

What plugins are included?

Added Settlements - New settlement signs - generic, BoS, Institute and Minutemen - for more than a score of new non-vanilla settlement locations. These are locations that are either obvious choices or ones that were specifically requested, and are for use with mods that add new settlement locations or that allow you to select or create your own.

Businesses Contains everything that relates to a place of business that isn't included in another category.

ChurchGraveHolidays - A catch-all for anything that might include religious stuff. Churches, graveyards, posters related to holidays, that kind of thing. I got a request from someone a while back to add some items for their religion because it was so underrepresented (as in non-existent) within the vanilla game. I did, and also added in a couple of items for other religions. If you want something added, let me know. If the whole thing offends you, just don't use this module.

Community - All of the community assets, things that a settlement would see as a common resource. Things like schools, a community greenhouse, a community pool, a crafting hall, and a community notice board.

Entertainment - All things entertaining. Music, movies, clubs, billiards, and so on.

FactionsBrotherhood - Everything relating to the Brotherhood of Steel.

FactionsInstitute - Everything relating to the Institute.

FactionsMinutemen - Everything relating to the Minutemen. In addition to generic stuff, there are items added to support three different visions of the Minutemen. The first is a benevolent communal effort, where everyone pitches in to help create a better wasteland. Optimistic if possibly naive. This is what Preston seems to be wanting, as far as I can tell. The second is a militia, organized along military lines. It's there to protect people and settlements and to fight off or eliminate threats. Everything else is up to the settlers to deal with. This is more like what the pre-Quincy Minutemen were, like the ones at the Castle. The third is a dystopian version, where the Minutemen are just as corrupt as any of the "bad guy" factions. The General rules with an iron fist, and dissidents vanish in the middle of the night, taken for "re-education".

FactionsRailroad - Everything relating to the Railroad.

FactionsOther - Anything that's a faction that's not one of the "big four". This includes raiders, atom cats, enclave, gunners, and so on. Right now this is very sparse, but I'll add stuff later, especially if anything specific is requested.

FoodAndDrink - If it relates to food or drink production or distribution and doesn't fit in one of the more specific plugins (ex: Community Greenhouse) it's in here.

GenericAndMiscellaneous - All of the generic signs and other stuff that didn't fit in any of the other categories.

GenericSettlements - All of the settlement signs that aren't affiliated with a faction. If you want the faction versions, they're in the faction plugins.

Graffiti - Various images and text designed to be "spray painted" onto a wall or similar surface. Includes a craftable spray paint object that is needed to make any graffiti. Don't worry, it's easily crafted.

LawAndSafety - Everything related to law and safety. Police/sheriff stuff, warning signs, signs welcoming or warning off certain types of people, that kind of thing.

Lodging - Anything that relates to a place where you can stay. Mostly hotels and motels.

Vintage - Real-world stuff old enough to be out of copyright that doesn't fit in one of the other categories. At this point, it's all WWI and WWII propaganda posters that I thought would go well with the overall theme of the game, set up to look worn and faded.

In addition, there are three other plugins that are "finished", in that I don't expect to be updating them.

SignsOfTheTimes - All the stuff from the old Signs of the Times mod, plus a bunch of other vanilla signs and posters that I found and added. If you're looking for a vanilla sign or poster, it's probably in here.

VegaOne - All of the stuff designed by guest artist VegaOne.

MurkwaterOil - All of the stuff created for a specific build someone wanted to make at the Murkwater settlement location.

Pick the ones you like, leave out the ones you don't. It's that easy.

What do I need to do to install it?

NMM Community Edition: Use the Install From File function (a yellow puzzle-piece looking thing on the left side of your screen).

Vortex: Drop it into the area at the bottom for manually installing mods.

MO2: I don't use it myself, but I've had reports that people using the current version of MO2 have had no problems with manually installing this mod. If you for some reason do, please try a completely manual install (placing the files where they need to be manually, without using MO2, then activating the mod in MO2 once everything is where it needs to be).

Something Else: Heck if I know. There's all sorts of stuff out there, I guess. Read the manual for your mod organizer, and see what it says about manual installs.

No matter how you install it, you will need Settlement Menu Manager (SMM) for this to work, so install that first! Be sure to follow the installation instructions for SMM, or it might not load the mod correctly!

A few addendums:

1) There are probably a few items that are in the wrong category. If you notice one, please let me know. I'll move any identified to their proper location when I get the chance.

2) I haven't figured out how to pack these as ba2 yet. All the tutorials make it sound easy, but it just doesn't want to work for me, and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. If anyone has a tutorial that shows explicitly how to do it, and is willing to share it, I would love to see it. For the time being, these are all loose files (just as has always been the case with GS&P).

3) If there's something you'd like to see added, ask. I may not include everything requested, but if it appeals to me or sounds like a reasonable addition, I'll see what I can do. All that I ask is to please be specific. Don't say "can you add more Enclave stuff". Ask for specific items.

This mod has taken many, many hours to make, and future updates will take many, many more. If you enjoy this mod and feel like saying thanks by buying me a beverage, or just chipping some cash my way, please check out my Patreon, which you can get to with the link in the icons below. It's pretty bare bones, because I spend my creative time here on the mod, not on Patreon, but know that if you do choose to support me, it's greatly appreciated!

First of of all, thanks for the mod! The amount of content is great and I really love using the signs. It must have been some work to put it all together,
That said, there are some that don't work, sometimes only a few within a category, sometimes a whole subcategory. In those cases, the shape of the sign is there but the sign's graphic isn't displayed correctly, Instead the surface shows some brown metal structure, which looks like some rusty shop front or something.

That's the default texture when a material replacer is missing.

There are two known signs with that issue that I have verified in my files, that are to be fixed soon. I'm not aware of any others that are having this issue, unless there was a problem with your install.

Please let me know specifically which signs are showing the default texture, and I'll check my files. Depending on what I find, I'll either add the sign to the list of ones to fix, or suggest that you try re-installing that particular module.

If the menu structure is there, try putting the data manually into the appropriate spots in the Data folder. That should fix your sign issues. If it doesn't, please let me know specifically which signs aren't working, so I can check them on my end and make sure they are pathed correctly.

I usually don't do anything to work with another mod (other than sometimes a sign that references one when I particularly like the work - ex: the Snappy Housekits billboard, the Jenn's Cleaning Service poster, or the Yondergirl's Quilt Shoppe sign), because there are just so many variations out there. But I can probably make some generic settlement signs for those places. Which ones would you want other than Concord, Quincy, and Lexington?

I can probably do that. Honestly, I've never really looked at nameplates on desks. Where specifically would I find an example of one, so I can check to see what the ID is on it?

Unfortunately, probably not. Everything I make uses vanilla meshes because I don't know how to use Blender or any other such programs to edit them, and there's only so much you can do with them in NIFSkope. I have previously managed to do neon, but not in a new mesh, just as lighting on an otherwise normal sign (ex: Cat's Paw). If you'd like some specific signs like that I can probably work stuff in, but new meshes, especially with custom snap points, are beyond me at this time.

Hi there! Thanks for the response, and sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

1. The menu is there, putting the Textures/Meshes/etc into my data folder by hand didn't fix anything. It's actually every single one of the signs from the Generic/Miscellaneous batch, including the paint buckets.

2. Besides Qunicy, Concord, and Lexington, I'd also like one for Vault 81 and the Nakano Residence, though that one I'd like to be named "Home Waters" as well as ones saying:

Everett

Weymouth

University Point

Fort Hagen (If this could be like your other signs for Fort Strong/Independence, I'd appreciate it)

Chestnut

East's End

East's Watch

Steeple Heights

Overlook

Some of those last ones are not what the areas are called in game, but it's what I'd like to call the communities the mods add. There's others, but those are the priority ones that I'm most interested in.

3. I'll see if I can find one in game. Maybe the secretary had one in Diamond City. If not, it's not a big deal.

4. That's fair. I'm trying to learn how this stuff works too, and keep getting slapped around by the Creation Kit. Would it be possible for you to make light-up versions of the posters like the ones for the DLC, specifically for the Dean Domino/Magnolia posters?

Thanks again for the reply, and for any work you're willing to do on my behalf.

One of the earliest fixes I made was when the Generic/Misc category wasn't working, and exactly as you described. I was trying to change the paths to work with MO2, and realized early on that it was way too big of a project, and stopped. However, it was that modified file that made it into the upload. The fix was replacing it with the correct one, which I thought fixed the issue.

Please re-download that module, and install, and see if that fixes it.

For the other settlements, I'm sure I can work those in, but if you could do me a favor, look over the settlement signs currently available, and for each one let me know what shape you want it ("Like the [x] sign") and if you want a clean crisp texture (recently professionally painted), an old faded texture, or a clean but rough texture (recently unprofessionally painted). That will help a lot when figuring out what look to give each one.

I'll look into making light-up posters for those two. I'm glad you specifically mentioned them, as a lot of work went into both. The Dean Domino one was entirely re-created by hand (because we can't port assets from an earlier game... forbidden by Bethesda) and took many hours to put together. The Magnolia one was less intensive, but also an early favorite of mine. I've put a lot more effort into some of the posters than anything else in the mod, both because they're higher resolution and because I'm really invested in the concept or had a fun idea. Parkside Brewery, Mary Goodneighbor, Reduced Shakespeare, Omnia and Sabaton are some of my particular favorites. So it's always nice to hear that someone particularly likes a poster that I put a lot of time into.

This is an suck an amazing mod thank you for all the work you've put into creating this!

As a heads up it still appears that the generic/misc module still doesn't appear to be working. I've tried both a vortex and a manual install. The signs/posters are in the menus but only the default textures are still showing.

Again thank you for all the hard work. I can't imagine it was easy to find all this still let alone maintain this mod.

Welp, I have achieved utopia! Our enemies at home have been... Reeducated, all threats to peace and order were exterminated, the Commonwealth is now safe and prosperous under the General's benevolent rule.

Next step; Use the Murkwater signs and a few Talon company armors to make a post-war corporate consortium.

Thank you again for inspiring me to make these playthroughs! :D

I keep intending to get that update for the Generic and Miscellaneous module up that will hopefully solve the problem, but the last couple of weeks have been very busy with IRL stuff, and it just hasn't happened.

This upcoming weekend is sort of a holiday weekend where I work, in that we get Thursday off. I'm requesting Friday off as vacation PTO, and if granted I'll have a four-day weekend, so I should have time to get that update finished and uploaded then.

Sorry for the delay, folks. Hopefully this time it fixes the issue.

Hi there.

First of all, sorry for the delay in the response, and thanks for your willingness to help. I'm glad that my appreciation for the Dean Domino poster meant something. I also really love the idea of making new advertisements for the businesses springing up in the New World.

Redownloading the Miscellaneous pack didn't solve the issue, unfortunately. Still getting blank posters.

As for the other settlements, I'm including a couple screenshots of the styles I'd like, and I'll elaborate a little. There are also a couple ones I forgot to request the last time. Hope that's okay.

Fort Hagen, Fort Strong, and Hanscom Air Force Base. I realize that Fort Strong already has a sign like this, but I'd like one that's MM themed. They don't need to say "Minutemen Headquarters" part, just have the logo, name, and slogan.

20220328182558_1.thumb.jpg.27ac010f35790434fa23095c401481cb.jpg

For Vault 81, I'd just like a number swapped version of this one:

20220328182546_1.thumb.jpg.8417205e66295b3fb40093f65b08b7ed.jpg

For Quincy, Concord, Lexington, Chestnut, East's Watch, and Two Sun, I'd like signs like this: Weathered, but recently professionally painted.

20220328182405_1.thumb.jpg.cd5c9f5ee3b90f70da80b57b3f28184b.jpg

For Everett, Weymouth, East's End, Steeple Heights, I'd like clean versions, but unprofessionally painted versions of the above sign.

For Northwind Point (Nakano Residence) and Dunwich, I'd like signs that look both recently made and professionally painted. Like the Pre-War Sanctuary Hills sign. I especially would like something that makes Dunwich seem totally nice and benign, kinda like the vibe Covenant is going for.

 20220328182427_1.thumb.jpg.583c970a7caf8bd17f1b6fc38d2a4ca0.jpg

And lastly, for The Overlook, I'd like a sign like the Post-War Sanctuary Hills sign. Something that looks like it's been neglected for 200 years.

"Welcome to The Overlook Hotel"

Additionally, I'd like one of these signs for this location:

20220328182332_1.thumb.jpg.11b0670b9b4bd6d193924b77edc4f0b0.jpg

With text along the lines of "The Overlook Hotel Masquerade Ball in the Gold Room Saturday October 23rd, 2077 Doors open at 8:00 Unmasking at Midnight"

Formatting and font is obviously up to your discretion, and please feel free to make it cleaner.

Once again, I really have to thank you for agreeing to indulge me, and apologize one more time for disappearing like I did. I'll keep trying to get the Miscellaneous mod to work for me and let you know if I have any success.

So, while these signs are for generic settlements, they're pretty specific, and there's 17 of them.

I can see others wanting to use these, but at the same time, they won't necessarily blend in with the other generic settlement signs.

Thankfully, the new mod format works perfectly for this. I'll just make another module (like I did with the other custom request I did, for Murkwater Oil), and then whoever wants to use them can just install that module.

However, it's not going to happen until I get this issue with the Generic and Misc module resolved, which will hopefully be this upcoming weekend.

Okay, I have uploaded another new version of the GenericAndMiscellaneous module. Please give it a try.

If it is still buggy, please let me know 6-12 specific object names that aren't working, so I can troubleshoot those specifically and see if I can track down the problem.

Every single one of the objects is working on my computer, so I'm having troubles identifying any specific issues. Your providing specific data on what isn't working after trying this new upload will greatly help.

Just for clarification, only the GAM module has been updated, so you don't need to re-download and re-install the whole mod, just that module.

So it still looks like the module is buggy. The signs are showing up in the menu but only the generic metal texture is showing.

Here's some specific objects, i tried to grab them from different sections:

  • GSP - SHOP ARMOR
  • GSP - SHOP BANNER GENERAL TRADER
  • GSP - VENDOR BAR SM
  • GSP - WOOD BREWER
  • GSP -  GENERIC MEDICAL 2
  • GSP - HARDWARE KITCHEN
  • GSP - POSTER WANDERER
  • GSP - TARGET SYNTH
  • GSP - SHOP CCA BAR
  • GSP - SHOP SND GENERAL TRADER

Thank you for looking into this!

That helps, thanks. That tells me that it's an overall issue rather than a specific mesh/material replacer issue, which makes it easier to track down why it isn't showing up. It's especially weird because they all show on my game. I'll do some more digging tomorrow and see what I can come up with.

My quest to fix GenericAndMiscellaneous continues.

I still haven't tracked down whatever it is that's wrong with that one module. So, I'm starting from scratch. I now have a module called GenericShops that has all of the generic vendor signs for the vanilla shops (Weapons, Armor, Clothing, etc.). Please give it a try and let me know if it's working. If it is, I'll move on to the rest of the signs from GenericAndMiscellaneous. If not, it's back to the drawing board....

Just installed the GenericShops plugin with Vortex. I'm still having issues on my end.  Going to try doing it manually and see if that helps.

Edit: Manual install didn't work. I think I'm just never going to be able to enjoy these signs. Too bad, because I've really enjoyed all the other ones I've used by you so far.

Edit: Manual install didn't work. I think I'm just never going to be able to enjoy these signs. Too bad, because I've really enjoyed all the other ones I've used by you so far.

Okay this is just weird. Again, they all worked on my computer.

Okay, only one thing to do. I'm going to recreate the entire GenericAndMiscellaneous plugin from scratch, not importing anything. Start from the textures, and rebuild the whole thing. Now, this isn't a small plugin, so it might take some time. But by the time I finish, hopefully it's all working again the way it should, and the way all of the other plugins do.

Okay, that sound you may have heard was a scream followed by the repeated banging of my head against my desk.

I think I found the problem. Or at least, I sure hope I did.

So, every single module has the same structure for Materials files. Materials > GruffyddS&P > GS&P-ModuleName. Or at least, that's what they're supposed to be. Turns out one of them - GenericAndMiscellaneous - was Materials > GS&P-ModuleName.

I only noticed this when I started to recreate the entire thing from scratch with a brand new plugin. Every other time I tried to fix this I opened it up and looked at the files. At no point did I open it at the top level and look at the basic folder structure. Because surely I wouldn't make that stupid and basic of an error. *sigh*

Please give it a try and let me know if this fixed it. Thanks!

Edit: Yes, I know some of the vault labels aren't working. That's next on my to-do list once I'm sure this issue is fixed.

Thank you so much for all the hard work with the Generic & Misc.  I just updated and for me it is still not working.  It DID change from the wood/metal background to the pink/purple background though.  I know nothing of mods or files so have no clue what would cause that to change but still not work so any advice would be great!  Thanks again!!

Well, this is good news, in a way.

It had the default texture before because the folder structure was off, so it couldn't find the material files for the material replacer.

Now, it's finding the materials, but is going pink on the signs because it can't find the textures. For the exact same reason, the folder structure was off there too.

I've fixed that now. I think it might actually work this time.

It is so good to have that bug finally fixed.

Now that that's done, I can start working on other things.

Coming up: 1) Fixing the glitchy institute labels, 2) Adding in some settlement signs that were requested, 3) A new module for Graffiti

For that third item, if there's anything you'd like to be able to use as graffiti let me know. Also, if there's a color you like that is either one of the in-game paint can colors or one of the ones I've added in this mod, let me know and I can set it to be that color and use the paint can as materials. I downloaded a lot of good graffiti fonts, from rough scribbles to wall art, so there's a lot of variety available.

A quick sample on a concrete wall:
