Provincial Courier Service 4.1.6

6 Screenshots

About This File

Skyrim's courier is an industrious young lad who can be seen all over the province, yet doesn't seem to have anywhere to live and/or work. He seems able to find you at will, but what if you wanted to find HIM? Even if it would be a meaningless encounter, one should still expect a living breathing NPC that takes part in the world to have some place to work at and call home. No longer will the poor courier simply be dragged from his mystery cell and dropped in front of you to make his deliveries. Thus is born the Provincial Courier Service.

This mod is a simple immersion/realism mod that provides a small shack outside of Whiterun along the main road, next to Honningbrew Meadery.

What This Mod Does

* Provides a home for Skyrim's default courier NPC who hands out letters for various quests.
* Courier deliveries will now occur in person nearly anywhere in Skyrim.
* Optional home delivery service will instead deliver messages to one vanilla or DLC house that you own.
* Can also approach the courier at his office and receive mail deliveries there.

Speak to the courier to set up your options. Until this is done, the courier will seek you out to deliver messages in person.

Requires the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch to be installed first!

Any potential for a full AE update? I've been doing a Goldenhills Plantation playthrough and noticed the courier can't deliver there. Thanks!

Hello. Thanks for your help, I would like to have the SE version added or the version before the AE version.

Not going to happen. Arthmoor only supports the latest and current build of SSE and that is 1.6.640. So, only version 4.1.4 of this mod will be available for download.

Also not necessary since this IS the SE version. There is no meaningful distinction between SE and "AE" as far as regular mods go.

Nothing overwriting this mod in anyway. No scripts being overwritten in anyway. But in this version i wanted to pick up my mail at office via dialoge. But i see the option and courier confirm he makes arrangements. But still he followes me around and delivers my mail in person. Is there something wrong with latest version?

AE here, experiencing some small bugs.

1. Easily avoidable - cannot receive Dark Brotherhood letter.
- Problem: Courier will not deliver Dark Brotherhood letter to your mailbox or when you go to him to pick it up directly.
- Solution: Set the courier (temporarily) to bring letters to you (like in Vanilla) and wait for him to bring the Dark Brotherhood letter. You can set it back when he's done.

2. Unsure cause - Courier does nothing (still functions properly).
- Problem: Courier will not go inside his house, explore, or live his own life. He merely stands in the same place a little bit near his house (likely where he originally spawns) and does nothing on his own unless you interact with him. Sort of defeats the purpose of the mod.
- Possible cause(s): AI Overhaul, RDO, etc. Any mod that affects AI. I use AI Overhaul and RDO and probably should stop LOL but it's likely why he doesn't live his own life.
- Solution: UNKNOWN. It doesn't bother me much and it doesn't prevent me from playing the game. Possible solutions might be loading Provincial Courier Service after the AI mods, but it hasn't been tested (and likely is already loading after) and I can't be bothered (as it doesn't impact me much and I'm already dealing with other issues haha + I am currently adjusting the load order settings to load after AI Overhaul and RDO so if that is the cause I'll let you know! :3).

No hate, still love this mod plenty! I'll get back to you if I find solutions for the silly little bugs on my end. Thanks for keeping this mod and your other mods available to the public for free. I primarily use Nexus, but I'm fine with coming here if it means I get high quality mods! Keep up the good work!

I'll have to look into the first one because that shouldn't be happening.

The second one is more straightforward. If he's not moving around and sandboxing next to his house that means the location data has been overridden for the cell where the house is. You should just be able to bring the mod down a bit lower in the load order to fix that.

Can confirm just dropping it below both in the LO fixed him just standing there like an idiot.

Both AI Overhaul and RDO had semi recent updates that messed with it in the same way for me.  He goes back to normal if you drop it down like the lizard man said.

And just to clarify, it fixes it because the cell data is now correct. I don't think AI Overhaul actually messes with his AI schedule at all. Neither should RDO, but RDO has had other out of scope things come up before so who knows.

Nah I agree I think it’s just something in some mod being sloppy unintentionally.

curious about the first issue because that seems to be some mod messing with DB, that’s one of the  letters I’ve had always be delivered, surprising that’s getting broken like that that’s odd.

Maybe a dumb question: the courier AI is linked to the associated location set in cell WhiterunExterior15 [3 , -4], but is it possible to make it dependant from, let's say, a proximity radius from his house? It would prevent his AI issue caused by an incorrect load order.

No, the record I'm showing in this picture is a screenshot from the french version of the plugin. "Blancherive" is the french for "Whiterun".

I don't remember if it's the right spot, but I was refering to the courier standing h24 in the same place doing nothing, which is (I think) the exact issue you described?

So this was my old LO prior to move, and he basically stands there.  You can move him, toss him, yeet him, still kinda goes there.

Just give it a condition to load PCS RDO and AI overhaul and you should be fine.

Yes that's exactly where he stands all day every day. I'll try messing with my load order and seeing if I can get him to move. I'll drop my mod list if it helps you guys identify what mod might be conflicting. The only other mods that edit that general area is maybe Convenient Carriages, but it's still pretty far away from everything else.

EDIT: Honestly I didn't expect replies so quick, thanks for addressing the issue. Sorry for responding so late. I'll keep an eye on this page and check in regularly till I or someone else figures out what the issue is! :3

So now that I look at my LO I did recently toss in convienent carriages because I was playing survival.

that’s probably it and it loads later I think than a lot so PCS should be low low in the order.

set a rule to load under CCarriges and see, I’ll try when I get home.

Yep, him being stuck right next to his sandbox marker is either the location being overridden or a navmesh issue caused by a conflict. Either one should be fixable by either pushing PCS down, or moving the other mod up. So long as PCS is the one loading later.

Given that Touring Carriages in particular does make a lot of navmesh changes in cells with roads, it's a safe bet it's probably caused both problems to exist.

I set PCS to load after Convenient Carriages and it made no changes to the load order. I'll link my current mod list & details. https://loadorderlibrary.com/lists/kans-list-090123

EDIT: I'm a little dumb... what might be causing it is Blended Roads, but I can't test it right now. I'll let you know if loading it differently makes any changes.

EDIT 2: Not the case, though he does seem to go missing more often (not in his house or outside). Usually when he's delivering me letters in person. Basically he functions just fine, but when he's not delivering letters his own living-at-home AI thing doesn't work.

He is still idle and bugged out for me. Just stands there. I have nothing overwriting anything in this mod other than patches for Lux and Landscape Fixes for Grass Mods, and those don't seem to change anything at all with his NavMesh or AI. Very frustrating.

EDIT - also tested on a brand new save with absolutely nothing loading after PCS other than DynDOLOD's Occlusion.esp and his AI package is still broken.

@dnmt Your very last plugin (Occlusion.esp) overrides a record/subrecord from PCS, making it void/invalid.

You should generate your Occlusion.esp file with ALL the mods you are using ingame activated (and in the exact same order), and that was obviously NOT the case (I also had this issue more than once).

Look at my load order in this screenshot (right click and open in a new tab for zooming/better visibility): My occlusion file has PCS as a master, the record I mentioned has been correctly ported in it, and everything is working fine.

You are thus having the default XLCN subrecord from Cell ref 0000063B (WhiterunLocation instead of ARTHPCSCourierServiceExteriorLocation). Without this subrecord, the courier AI cannot compute/process...
