About This File

Misery and despair have haunted you all your life. Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, you've been arrested and thrown in the dungeons. Your trial was supposed to be weeks ago, only nobody has come for you. It's been so long since seeing daylight you no longer know what month it is anymore. The dungeon is cold, damp, and worse still, you're running out of food. At least you have that leak in the wall for water. It seems as though you've been forgotten, soon to rot away and die. The eight have forsaken you! Or... have they?

Live Another Life provides an alternative means to start the game for those who do not wish to go through the lengthy intro sequence at Helgen. You will be given the opportunity to choose your race and then choose a new life for your character to lead. A wide variety of choices will be available. What you choose will have a lasting impact, so choose carefully or the gods may forsake you again!

Additional support has also been provided to allow you to extend Live Another Life with your own starts.

Requires the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch to be installed first!

Does this version work with Skyrim SE pre AE? I prefer to not play with the most recent exe file hence I am still using the old but with all the extra cc content already downloaded, and I would like not to use the file on the nexus page, since it is outdated.

It requires the current version of USSEP, so no, you can't use it with the old 1.6.x game version.

Having the same issue with the statue of Mara giving her "approach my child" opening line, but no dialogue appearing. Has anyone found what is causing this?

LOVE this mod, can't wait to get it working again.

I'm having this issue today as well. Just downloaded this from this site for the first time, after having this bug after installing it from Nexus. Even after a fresh install from this site and a new game, still cant get past this bug and I'm stuck.

I've been pulling my hair out trying to get this mod working. Everytime I travel to Helgen I get a CTD approx 50m from the doors. I've used LOOT and ensured this mod is loaded dead last. Still can't get it to work. Disabling the mode allows me to get into Helgen but main quest doesn't start etc so no good either. Any help would be appreciated!

I just installed newest version to AE, used to use this mod all the time on SE but now the game just loads into the vanilla start as if the mod wasn't there.  I have double-checked the esp, load order, etc.

I just updated to Skyrim AE and tried to start a new game only with SKSE, USSP and Alternate start. When I activate this mod (4.1.6) with MO 2, the game doesn't start (immediatly quit without any error). When I decativate the mod the game starts. 

Does the mod supports Skyrim AE?

Edit: Problem is solved. For some unknown reason I had downloaded the Mod for Skyrim LE instead of SE/AE.

Your question doesn't really make sense. Skyrim Anniversary Edition is a paid DLC package that you get from Steam (more information). Something is clearly not right with your game setup because I'm able to use this mod just fine without any problems.

I'm pretty sure I already know the answer - but this mod *is* compatible with Jan 6th's 1.6.353 update, skse, etc, correct? I'm currently waiting on PapyrusUtil's update - it and racemenu are skse version dependent and will need updates.

Doesn't work with 1.6.342. Statue of Mara says the line to approach then nothing happens. No dialogue or options appear.

First of all, you don't have the latest version of the game through Steam. Second of all, what you're say isn't true, I didn't have that problem in my game before I updated to 1.6.353 the other day. There's a chance that you and others with the described issue either don't have the mod near the bottom of your load order (like the instructions say you should), or you're at or extremely close to the limit of 512 plugins in your "Data" folder.

I ran into that issue myself (the mara dialogue not showing up). I'm not entirely sure what the issue was at all, really. Some kind of SkyUI related issue, regardless. It breaks the dialogue menu and anything UI related occasionally. I remember I was trying to get MoreHUD's keybinds set in xedit at the time. A restart (complete exit and re-entry) fixed it for me. It only happened a couple of times, and was always related to something with SkyUI and MCM keybinds.

No, but if you try to set a keybind for anything MCM related, SkyUI breaks and the game either freezes or crashes to desktop. The entire UI, dialogue, cursor, etc... all just vanishes. You have to edit in any MCM keybinds, toggle them *on* in xedit, enter a new game, save said MCM settings *without touching anything* via FISS and/or MaskedRPGFan's settings loader mods (and yes, you can use *both* at the same time), then *exit*, re-enter the game, and restart an entirely new game so they either auto-load or a simple press of a FISS "load" button can be done. Not doing it exactly that way, and only that way, crashes the entire UI - *or* the mod will reset upon game load to default, and the xedit has to be completely redone.

 

There's nothing wrong with ASLAL - it's just a SkyUI crash. People claim it's an skse issue, but the truth is, SkyUI needs to be updated for AE. But no one knows where on earth the author is. They left ages ago, claiming it would never need updating because it wasn't dependent on the skse version, and never returned. 2017 was the last they were ever seen. But we know that neither SkyUI nor MCM keybinds (changing them, that is) function now.

I'm not sure why people think SkyUI needs updating for SE 1.6, because it doesn't. I've invested 25 levels in a game so far with it and had no issues from it whatsoever. All of its UI functions work and the MCM has had no problems of any sort. SkyUI does not have an external dll file so it's not at the mercy of game updates.

Does this work with SSE 1.5.x?  Either way, I am having a very frustrating problem and updating to this version did not help.  When this mod is active it will NOT start at all.  It is skipped and goes straight to the vanilla start.  What would cause this?  I have a huge list of mods.  I have tried disabling a good number of them but unfortunately, I have so many dependencies on various mods that it has become a nightmare.  I am going to try and untangle this mess to get to the bottom of it but I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.  It is not an issue with an esp/esl/etc as I disabled all of them except the ones I have from Bethesda and the unofficial fixes.  I am guessing It is probably some bsa that has overwritten a file because MO2 is not detecting any overwrites. How are bsa conflicts resolved?  Because this version is the highest mod priority in MO2.

EDIT: If I disable ALL mod FOLDERS in MO2 except this one and the Unoffical fixes, then it works.

No. The latest version of this mod requires that you update your game through Steam. The latest version of USSEP is a requirement, which also means that you need 1.6.x or greater.

My guess would be you're having problems because you're running an old version of the game with newer versions of mods. Either that or you've been removing mods on an existing save, which corrupts it beyond repair.

Neither of these is the case.  I am trying to start a brand new game of SSE after having never played one beyond the first 10 min in 2018.  The issue occurred before I downloaded this version and I have had my updates disabled before version 1.6 came out.  However, your comment did clue me into what is probably happening.  I did a search last night for TIF__0005A6A6 inside my skyrim files.  It took a long time but version 4.2beta of USSEP which came out in July which is the version I have installed, has a reference to this script and the version I have of this mod came out before that.  I downloaded my last version of this mod from Nexus (4.14).  Is there a version 4.15?.

 

EDIT: Downgrading both to earlier versions doesn't fix the problem.   So something else is going on but I still want to get the latest versions.   Where is the last version from before 4.1.6? (last version that works on NON AE edition).

Arthmoor only provides the latest version for download, which is what is available here.

Also, read this topic. There's no such thing as a "non-AE edition" of the game; it's still Skyrim Special Edition. AE is an optional downloadable package of CC content.

Reading all of the provided documentation of the mods you download is important. Arthmoor clearly states that he only provides mods for version 1.6.353. No former versions will ever be supported.

The advice is always going to be "update to the latest version of everything." If you've barely played the game I'd suggest that chasing the "downgrade dragon" is pointless. Setting that up correctly would require an encyclopaedic knowledge of the different versions of each mod and how they interact.

Forgive me for being overcautious, but as I haven't really downloaded much off-Nexus, I wanted to check.

I downloaded the LAL file from  here.  I put the zip into Vortex, and it seems to upload.  It put it super low in the load order and if you see how the old one from Nexus displays, it shows version and genre, etc.  I just want to make sure before I push the button on this that I've done it correctly.

If someone wouldn't mind...

(obviously, I will uninstall the old one, but I left it here for the purposes of illustrating my concern/question)
