About This File

Misery and despair have haunted you all your life. Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, you've been arrested and thrown in the dungeons. Your trial was supposed to be weeks ago, only nobody has come for you. It's been so long since seeing daylight you no longer know what month it is anymore. The dungeon is cold, damp, and worse still, you're running out of food. At least you have that leak in the wall for water. It seems as though you've been forgotten, soon to rot away and die. The eight have forsaken you! Or... have they?

Live Another Life provides an alternative means to start the game for those who do not wish to go through the lengthy intro sequence at Helgen. You will be given the opportunity to choose your race and then choose a new life for your character to lead. A wide variety of choices will be available. What you choose will have a lasting impact, so choose carefully or the gods may forsake you again!

Additional support has also been provided to allow you to extend Live Another Life with your own starts.

Requires the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch to be installed first!

Fixed a landscape anomaly at the Khajiit Caravan start location.

thanks for the amazing work

i use water for enb mod and when i installed this mod and choose i whant escape from this cell, go out and i has this problem, i travel others locations and i have this just here

so, I've noticed a bit of an issue. not sure if it's intentional or an oversight but whenever I choose the option "I'm a necromancer in a secret location" it will always 100% of the time spawn me in sinderion's hovel in black reach. it wouldn't be a problem except that I get immediately bodied by the dwarven sphere right outside. so when I walk out that door the sphere has already taken out 3/4th or more of my health before I've even fully loaded into the cell. on top of that, I do so little damage that I can't kill the thing without a great deal of effort or cheating.

Doesn't seem to work with the recent Skyrim Anniversary edition from GOG.

Choosing new game just goes to default Helgen start.

Edit- It does work you just have to make sure that plugins.txt is in the skyrim special edition GOG folder.

That's intentional, but there's ways to avoid it or deal with it. A potion of invisibility is in the hut, along with a scroll of Summon Storm Atronach, a few spells, some ingredients to make more potions, stealth boots, and some other goodies. If you can't beat it, just go hide somewhere and wait for it to stop agro'ing, then get out of Blackreach.

Oddly enough, when choosing the join a guild options and the companions I take the steps and when it comes time to give Aela her shield I get a comment about my being new here and can't progress even after trying to enter/leave the hall or whiterun itself, also the quest to recover Amren's father's sword will never trigger.. have tried completing multiple quests and or advancing time but neither will proceed.. I think aela not recognizing me is related to Skjor never leaving watching the brawl to be there when I return her shield and having his conversation part though no idea if Amren's quest  triggering is related

When I start a new game, ASLAL doesn't start up, my game just goes straight to the carriage scene.

 

EDIT:: I have the requirement(s), and my version of Skyrim is rolled back to SE from AE. I have less than 80 plugins.

I have the same problem. It should work, and it seems to (meaning no CTD or something like that), but when starting a new game the mod seems to be ignored and it just goes straight to the vanilla start.
Am I doing something wrong, missing something important?

Using the GOG version and the mod doesn't seem to be activating. Only mods I have running are this, USSEP, and SkyUI. Starting a new game just puts me in the wagon like vanilla, not sure if there's anything I can do.

been trying to deduce whats happening and it appears that im having the same problem as the both guys above me, maybe something with the script not working on gog anniversary but thats my personal hyphotesis

Did you check where plugins.txt is coming from? If the game doesn’t know you have the mod, it won’t use it. The replies above imply that the GOG install moved it, and there may be a setting that affects that.

reinstalled skyui and alternate start suddenly just fixed itself, idk what was the problem, can't even explain why or how it happened but it just worked fine for me after the reinstall

I have finally figured this out, I think, after a lot (A LOT) of trial and error. I just started trying to set up AE after playing and modding Skyrim LE for many years. Shortly thereafter, I ran into the problem (not a bug) of LAL's Mara dialogue box not opening at the beginning. I tried the SSE Engine Fixes and it did not solve the issue. After working on this for the better part of a day, I think what causes this is the game hitting its limit on open files it can handle at once. I don't know exactly what this limit is but there still seems to be a level the game hits where it simply begins to stop working. LAL only began working reliably with the Mara dialogue box opening every time after I significantly reduced my mod load. I suspect this is going to be more difficult for AE players because AE's inclusion of a lot of extra mods into the base game expands what the game is trying to do as a baseline extensively. Because LAL asks the game to run a add-on mod first thing after it starts up, I believe it acts as a sort of canary in the coal mine  - if the LAL Mara text box doesn't come up, the game is over its limit and all mods are likely going to experience various issues unless you reduce your load. LAL doesn't create the problem, it simply highlights the problem right away - which is actually quite helpful. My load was up to something like 180ish esps and 200ish esl plug-ins over the base game. I've reduced that to roughly 160 esp and 130 esl, and now everything seems to work as intended. I hope this helps others - this was an incredibly frustrating issue to troubleshoot, and if it were almost any other mod I wouldn't have bothered - but playing Skyrim without LAL would just be wrong.

Whenever I start a new game it plays the vanilla carriage opening. I only have SKSE, USSEP and SkyUI installed. I have reinstalled everything multiple times and I have not idea what the problem is.

The text file FAQ says to check if the mod is actually enabled in the mods menu in the launcher, but that is not there in Special Edition.

Then I looked in the Mods menu from the main menu in game, and check the load order. Only SkyUI is "enabled" and USSEP and Alternate Start are both greyed out. If I try to activate them it says "This mod cannot be installed since it depends on files that aren't present"

What version of SSE are you playing? 1.5.97 or 1.6.x?

Using the latest USSEP and ASLAL with SSE 1.5.97 would explain the not being enabled/loaded issue you are reporting, as well as the issues being reported by other players. You'll be missing the 4 CC mods that are now required master files for the latest USSEP and ASLAL, as they are for SSE 1.6.x.

That did it!

I have played LE for 1000+ modded hours but never SE. So when I tried SE I was confused about the default CC mods and googled that you manually have to delete their files to remove them etc.
I had no idea, and could not find any help stating such, that the 4 default CC mods were hard requirements.

Reinstalled, let the mods stay and now everything works like a charm.

Hi all i know this has been asked ALOT but im an a day 1 NOOB(literally) lol 

I downloaded this but using VORTEX to install mods and its not working at all when i click and drag into VORTEX i just get the so called vanilla into 

here is my set up (please be gentle) im new to this

Mod Organizer 2 states that I need the AE DLC to run it.

I am currently on version 1.5.97

Is this the SSE version or the AE version? I am confused because I am in the SSE mod section.
